Stand-up comedian Kyle Kinane will perform for two nights, Friday, June 25th at 9:30 PM and Saturday, June 26th at 8:30 PM at the Maennerchor Rathskeller, 966 South High Street in Columbus, Ohio. Kinane is a rising star in stand-up comedy, currently touring as the featured opening act for national favorite Patton Oswalt. But not for long! In a recent interview on the podcast “Comedy And Everything Else”, Oswalt told fellow comedians Jimmy Dore and Todd Glass, “This guy Kyle Kinane that I have open up for me, he’s gotten so good now (laughs) that I don’t really know if I want him opening up. He’s getting hard to follow — but in a way that’s good because it makes me work harder.”
Kyle has appeared on TV via NBC’s “Last Call with Carson Daly”, “The Very Funny Show” on TBS and “Live at Gotham” on Comedy Central. In addition, he has had stellar appearances at many of the top national festivals, including Leicester, Vancouver, Washington DC, Just For Laughs, SXSW and the USCAF/Aspen Comedy Festival. In early 2010, Kyle released his first CD from A Special Thing Records, titled “Death of The Party”. Punchline Magazine called it “a truly original, funny and wholly satisfying album”. Added Patton Oswalt in his interview with GQ, “he’s one of the freshest new talents out there…totally unique and addictive.”
Kinane released his debut CD from AST Records in early 2010.
Kyle Kinane headlines the second of a five show series run by local comedian Dylan Shelton called “Comedy: No Holds Barred”. This series was created in an effort to bring some of the top up-and-coming comedic acts from New York and Los Angeles to the Columbus community in an intimate setting ideal for stand-up. On April 2nd and 3rd, the series began with a stellar weekend from Anthony Jeselnik (Comedy Central Presents, Live At Gotham, and HBO’s Down & Dirty with Jim Norton). The show enjoyed tremendous crowds on both nights and featured excellent sets by local comedians Justin Golak, Travis Hoewischer, Darrell Dawson and Dean Masello on Friday and Saturday. The show also featured stand-up sets by nationally touring acts Ryan Singer (Bob & Tom, Rooftop Comedy Recording Artist) and Gabe Kea (Bob & Tom) on Saturday.
One of the key selling points of the Comedy: No Holds Barred series is the venue, the Columbus Maennerchor. A former private club located in the heart of German Village in Columbus, the Maennerchor boasts several rooms ideal for meetings, wedding receptions, or a simple night out for dinner. Among these rooms, the Rathskeller has served as the home of "Comedy: No Holds Barred" for its perfect comedy set-up. Much like top comedy clubs in New York City, the Rathskeller is a dark, intimate room wrapped around a well-lit stage. It comfortably seats 95-100 people, and through careful consideration and preparation, it has been set-up to be the best place to watch stand-up in Columbus.
Along with the prospect of bringing up-and-coming national headliners to Columbus, “Comedy: No Holds Barred” also aims to showcase some of the top local comedians in Ohio that have shown their talent over the past year. On Friday, June 25th, the show will have featured sets from three tremendous Ohio acts; Chris Coen (two-time winner of Funniest Person in Columbus, featured on RooftopComedy.com), Jeff Burgstrom (Finalist, Funniest Person in Columbus) and Mike Cronin (Finalist, Funniest Person in Cincinnati, featured performer in Underbelly, voted best comedy show in Cincinnati). On Saturday, June 26th, Kinane will have featured sets by two other talented comedians from the area; Columbus’ Robbie Collier (RooftopComedy.com NCCC Semi-Finalist and Finalist, 2010 Funniest Person in Columbus) and Cincinnati’s Dave Waite (Comedy Central’s Live at Gotham, Rooftop Comedy Festival). Friday night will be hosted by Dan Wilburn (Finalist, Funniest Person in Columbus), with Saturday belonging to the show's financier and creator, Dylan Shelton.
“Comedy: No Holds Barred” is a premier entertainment option for the people of Columbus. For $15, we believe audiences are not merely buying a ticket to "some comedy show", they are paying for an experience; an opportunity to say “I was there first” while enjoying a weekend of top-tier performers.
