Why is there no dating site that caters to comedy-lovers?

I know in the big picture, comedy nerds are a very, very small percentage of the population, but there are without a doubt hundreds of thousands of them, probably millions, in the US and Canada, and a good portion of them are certainly single.

If you google "football dating" or "food dating," you'll find sites devoted to specific groups. But, to my knowledge, there are no sites devoted to helping comedy nerds/lovers find a significant other.

Seems like a small but existent demographic that nobody's catering to.

Maybe I'm wrong and it's a terrible idea and I only think it's a good idea because I'm sick of seeing people say they "love comedy" then listing "Robin Williams" "Two and a Half Men" among their favorite things.

If there were such a site, would you use it?

Am I right? Wrong? Dumb? Pathetic?

Does The Onion still do Onion personals? Because there's that.

This is actually a fantastic idea, but it needs to be a hybrid of traditional dating sites and Hot or Not.

In order to find people with your similar tastes in comedy (and therefore life) users would have to watch two 20-minute comedy sets from popular comedians and then vote on which one they like more. After they do this about 5 or 6 times they will have generated their comedyluv profile, and will receive suggestions based on how other people answered.

Also, to make this as unpalatable and destructive as possible, all comedians will be automatically e-mailed when someone dislikes them.
    I'm in.

don't you need attractive people to make a dating site work?

I think you just need attractive stock photography to make a dating site work.

If you look at any dating profile and it says "I like to laugh" that's all the info you need.

I remember when Todd Barry was on Morning Sedition with Maron once, and a lady called in to say that there should be a "show where women can date comedians!" because "ladies are looking for funny men!" And either Todd or Marc was like, "Have you ever dated a comedian? Because... it's not funny."

I'm just imagining how many guys would end their descriptions with an ironic, "p.s. no fatties."

You'd think that'd be great, right? I signed up for that the instant I saw it, thinking that The Onion would be a great starting point for a dating site. Sadly, The Onion's partnership with Zoosk is awful/borderline scammy. It just links you into Zoosk, and the partnership with the Onion ends there; there isn't an Onion section on it or anything, just Zoosk. And Zoosk is fucking TERRIBLE. I found okcupid.com, and it's surprisingly good and actually free, but it's still not EXACTLY what I want, which would be what I described; comedy nerd-centric dating.

Someone PM'd me that a few relationships have come out of AST, which is really neat, but I'd still definitely like to see a full-on dating site with the that angle.

Bucky_Sinister; Not Literally in that exact combination, but it's an accurate though technically fictional example of things I've seen on both dating sites and social networking sites in general. I've seen people say how much they love comedy and value a good sense of humor in a person, then list Two and a Half Men as one of their favorite shows. I've also seen other people say that they love stand-up, then list Robin Williams as one of their top 5.

People who like awful things use the internet just as much as we do, so I assure you it's not an exaggeration.

That's funny, and I've heard that case made before. But, as I'm sure a lot of comedy lovers/comedians will agree, there are also some not-emotionally-destructive people who love and do comedy. And I'd rather work through issues with a troubled but hilarious person than deal with an unfunny spouse.

But that's a good reference to pull, and in Maron's case that holds extremely true, as much as I love the guy.

I can't think of any comedy nerd I'd like to date. Terrible idea.

People can certainly meet on here, which I know has happened, and is really cool. But you've got to agree that there's definitely a difference in set-up/tone to a forum discussing comedy and comedians, to a site where people are specifically looking for a relationship.

Liezl has higher standards than to meet anyone from this board. I however, don't. Can you post your picture in the picture thread, please?

Fair enough, it wouldn't be for you.

As to your second point, again, as I just made the case to someone else, while AST is great to connect with other comedy nerds, its goal and set up isn't specifically to help people find a relationship. It can happen, but it's not put together with that goal in mind, and that was my idea.

Seems like a bit of a hostile tone. I think it's safe to say most people on AST like a lot of the same things and are in the same mindset, so the hostility, unless I'm misinterpreting people, seems a little harsh. I'm, clearly, new to the site, and I'm just trying to bring a new idea up to people who love the same things that I do.

If I'm misinterpreting things and nothing that's been said was intended to be at all hostile, my mistake.
