Thread: Who are the Ad Wizards who came up with this one?

Who are the Ad Wizards who came up with this one?

I have come across this package several times at the store. Under what circumstances were these two products packaged together. I cannot come up with an answer serious or otherwise.

    What are your thoughts?

What other products boggle your mind?

In all my years at Best Buy, I think the best promotional item I saw in conjunction with a DVD was a beanie that was packaged with the Coach Carter DVD.

It had "Coach Carter on DVD" embroidered on it.

I couldnt find a picture but found this photo on ebay of a promotional shirt for the dvd.

Perfect! An exclamation point would be too much for this shirt because no one, including the film's cast, could match its excitement.

I think I figured out my product: they were owned by the same parent company who had an excess of headphones and it cost more to store them than to give them away for free.

no package, but 3 years ago i saw a "How to prepare for Y2K" DVD in the Best Buy bargain bin. I almost bought it just for the heck of $6.99. I think the only way that thing sells is if some weirdo like me thinks it could be funny on some weirdo level.

What's funny about the razor/ ear phones is that it may have cost more to stock them than to give them away hoping to sell more razors, however they had to have the clear packaging redesigned and manufactured to fit the extra product and then integrate that into their production facility in order to ship these as a different SKU then the original non-earphone razor. The redesign plus new part number/ integration overhead had to have cost them more than letting them sit on a shelf. Ad wizards indeed.

Am I the only one with an Mp3 player/razor? It only plays Smith songs so its ok when I cut myself though.

I like the idea of actual wizards that have had to take careers in advertising.

I didn't like that commercial. Selling orange juice with the suggestion of inter-species sex is not a good idea.

I think this thread should actually be dedicated towards bad ideas in commercials, instead of an inquiry about which advertisement wizard was affiliated with a given idea for an advertisement. I dunno, it just seems like the first products being advertised were already being mocked, but no serious investigation occurred with a purpose to find out which wielder of marketing arcana was involved.

Even if we did find these "Sales Warlocks", as I like to call them, what would we do? Would it just be another thing to nerd out about? That would knock down this thread's standing in my book by a hefty amount.

I like what is happening, but it doesn't quite match the thread title.

Can a commercial invoke the uncanny valley even if there are no humans in it?

Wow. I was mildly freaked out when I saw the bestiality-chic print ads on the Paris Metro. Now I need to go vomit.

You just spoiled the arc of season 4 of Mad Men, Draper goes to San Francisco on a business trip and discovers his wizard powers during an LSD trip with some hippies while he's trying to figure out a way to market a hundred thousand shirts that were ruined after falling into several dye cauldrons without even being unbundled..
