Things you find funnier than you probably should

There are a lot of things that make me laugh. And a lot of them I would not have a problem explaining to others why I find them so funny. Then there are things that I can't believe I still giggle so much everytime I hear it.

One example of this is an old joke I heard on Conan. I don't remember the set up, I just know the punchline was "Clay Aiken-for-man-sausage." Such a stupid joke, and yet it still cracks me up whenever I think about it.

Another thing I found absolutely hilarious that no one ever understood was when I had cable and there were two tv channels that would play the same programming about 3 seconds apart. I would watch 3 seconds of one, and flip to another channel to see it repeated and it was hours of endless comedy that I don't think makes any sense.

I used to play with my Tivo all the time to replay little noises and snippets, usually things people said, and just laugh like a fool. Once this guy on Jeopardy! was about to say a category name that started with the word "Postal" - regular viewers know that contestants on that show are regularly interrupted in mid-asking-for-the-next-category when the first round break happens - anyway the guy gets out a kind of high-pitched "Po-" before Alex tells him the round's over. That was a great one.

I was at a party with the Britney Spears movie Crossroads playing in the background. I don't know the context of what was going on, but someone pushes a pregnant friend of Britney down a long flight of stairs. I couldn't stop laughing at this.

Also, in the movie She's All That, the main character plays a deep, tortured artist who's mom died. Everyone keeps complimenting her artwork but the audience never sees it until it is dramatically revealed towards the end. It's a picture of what I think is her mom as a sad crying clown.

Nobody else seems to remember this except for me, and I laugh at it a lot in my nostalgia: There was this old commercial for anti-online-gambling. It was a homeless family out on the streets at night. The mom and dad are talking at the camera.

"If only our son hadn't gambled away our life savings online!"

The kid walks up.

"I said I was sorry!"

Parents: "GO TO YOUR BOX!"

My fiance has this terrible impression he does of an Irish boxer. He doesn't really say anything, just moves his fists around and kind of huffles and says half-words in an Irishy accent.

It makes me almost pee myself every time.

During a time when I was feeling less than fulfilled at my job, I used to keep a window with the Merriam-Webster web page open on my desktop. Every time a co-worker would come in to talk to me, I would wait for them to get one foot out the door and then make the computer voice pronounce a word like "dick," "asshole," "tit," "poop," "booby," etc. That made me laugh pretty good. Got me through a lot of bad days.

(Full disclosure: I still do it sometimes and it still makes me laugh. And I work at home.)

This is dumb, and I don't know if there is a name for it but sometimes I'll channel surf and flip the channel at points like a soap commercial "..Use it a as a presoak for.." click! "karen bailey, she hosted a toy sex party but the defendant is claiming that she was not reimbursed for the sex toys she sold and now..." click "the president is going to make a decision based on the current information that is available."

I feel guilty about playing into their trap, but 90% of Jack in the Box commercials make me laugh each time I see them. Particularly any of them where Jack's smile curve gets replaced with a straight-line deadpan.

Actually, all those Kelloggs commercials (with the outcast who appreciates Raisin Brain on a different level than his friends) make me laugh every time too.

I know exactly what your talking about and I used to do the same thing. The first thing I wanted to post about is in a similar vein to your's and Tron's post about the humor in mindless repetition.

I have this cat video which you're supposed to leave playing on your TV when you're away to entertain your bored cat. It's called "Ms. Finnicky's Cat Adventure Vol. 1." It's all video of birds in trees and fish in fishtanks. Basically, some guy went and filmed animals at the zoo, and spliced in a couple of loud cat meows. I probably find the concept itself funnier than I probably should but one thing the editors did I found really amusing was when they showed this chipmunk come in and out of his hole. The way they edited it you could tell they only had about one second of chipmunk footage and they only had this one shot of the chipmunk going into it's hole but never emerging from it. So to make the footage last longer they just ran the tape in reverse and had the chipmunk reemerge from the hole tail first and then ran the tape normal again sending the rodent back into the hole and then pulled him back out again by reversing the tape and they just repeated that clip over and over on a loop for about five minutes. LOVED IT!
