I'll be at the IA date for sure. Weird for them to be paired up with Against Me! but I'm not going to complain.

Why? It is the angry white guys tour.

I dunno, people I know who like Ted Leo wont get along with the people I know who like Against Me. I saw TL a few years ago and he was having a terrible tour, so I hope this one goes better for him

Here's some news: They played a new song when I saw them a few weeks back. And it was good.

I thought so too my first few listens, but it's grown on me mightily and now I think it stands with the rest of his work.

I can't imagine Ted having a terrible tour...

But a friend of mine who saw him open for Pearl Jam a few weeks ago (and had never heard of him before) thought he was spectacular.

Maybe I'll go to the Black Cat show. I really hate driving to and from DC on a weeknight though.

Did you guys hear the episode of The Best Show where Tom and his listeners wrote a song on the air with Ted? So much fun.

He was talking about how nothing seemed to be working out that tour. Guitars were lost, probably wasn't a paid the night before. He still put on one hell of a show.

They should make a record of his digital EPs.

"Mourning in America" is the new one he played when I saw him a few months back and I really like it. The other songs are good, but the one he said he wrote the other day needs a bit of polish. This was $4 well spent.

I like this a lot, and as a big Amebix fan from way back, track four gave me a thrill.

I've been listening to Chisel's Set you free all week.

    So good!

This is sort of strange, self-congratulatory, but true.

I was the first person to tell Ted that his new work was completely amazing and worth pursuing. Back then he didn't have a band, and I'm pretty sure Chisel had been out of the picture for at least a year- think 1998, 1999ish. This was just him onstage and for some reason the audience wasn't reacting at a show at Fort Reno, and because the songs were so weird (no one was really looking back at Thin Lizzy at the time) and so new, I talked to him in as serious a voice possible that he could not back down, change that sound, and had to go full steam ahead. A few months later he mentioned I was the first person sort of unrelated to him who told him that he was onto something.

I was supposed to do a phone interview with Ted this week, but just got an email from his publicist saying it'll have to be over email now. I'm pretty bummed.

But if any of you guys have some good questions, throw them out.

    Re: Ted Leo News Thread

I only very recently "discovered" Ted Leo when I picked up Living with the Living on a blind buy. I loved it to death. I can't believe how long I've gone without hearing him before.

So, where should I go from here? I'm seeing The Tyranny of Distance is well regarded, and honestly I'll probably just go ahead and buy up the discography, but is there any consensus on "the must have" Ted Leo album that I should go to immediately?

I'm very fond of Shake The Sheets.

Ted Leo is great. Seeing him for the first time playing 'Rude Boys' on Conan is a memory I recall often.
