I just never get why players do so much through the media. If you want to be traded, maybe don't submarine your trade value by airing everything in the press. If the team can get more for you, they might be more willing to trade you.

So Tim, who is the problem with the T-Wolves? I'm not really familiar with them at any sort of detailed level. David Kahn is a fuckup GM? Glen Taylor a shitty owner? Ghost of Kevin McHale lingering?

What's that? Nobody cares or knows who he is? Oh well.
I know who he is, he's the player I signed from free agency in association mode in 2K12. I'm artificially inflating his trade value by giving him a lot of minutes.

Current contract situations will make us think that this is him setting up an eventual exit, but this could also be a genuine attempt at lighting a fire under David Kahn to make some decent moves.
I don't mean with this specifically, I meant in general over the past season. I'm still not sure if he's a deliberate face stomper for instance.

    Oh, Canada. Sorry.

(I saw that this was in OT and turned it on just as they entered extra time at 120. "Oh, penalty kicks coming, this should be interesting." Not so fast!)

Um, Tim ... I think I'm in Love with Kevin Love.

(He's the third most important player on the team, being that Team USA decided they didn't need any rebounders)

It's gonna be epic. Possibly an epic failure, but still epic. I feel bad for the 28 other teams that aren't Miami or LA, but don't forget, this is LeBron's fault for starting this super-team shit! Oh, and look on the bright side: our depth will be pretty terrible! Chemistry? TBD... Nash will have his toughest job ever keeping Kobe and D12 happy and fed. Meanwhile, Pau will probably be in therapy for the rest of his life to deal with the trajectory of his career: franchise player > 2nd option > 3rd option > now 4th option... How low can he go? He might actually be better off as the sixth man on this team (and it would probably be better for the team too, not that I trust Mike Brown to make a smart lineup move). Hey, we still need outside shooters too, right? Now more than ever. Not holding my breath for any decent role players. Antawn Jamison will probably be in a coma by January, given his age. Dwight himself is a risk with that bad back... Kobe's still aging ungracefully. Nash is still defying Father Time, but for how long? I guess I'm saying don't be too jealous -- the Thunder are still younger, faster and deeper. The Spurs? Eh, I don't know, but I've counted them out every year for the past three only to see them almost beat the odds.

I'm about to give up on sports. If you don't live in a major market, you're basically a sucker for giving the leagues any money. I said it on twitter, but the rest of the NBA might as well be the fucking Washington Generals. This sucks for the sport. The whole thing sucks and it weakens the product across the board. How is someone in any other market supposed to give a shit or feel like there's any reason to be optimistic your team will have a shot at some point in the future? What was the whole point of the lockout? Why didn't Stern just let Chris Paul go to the Lakers? Why do I even care at all anymore?

I feel ya but OKC is still one of the best 3 teams in the league and could win it all next year. The Spurs won just recently. Neither of those markets are big. The Knicks suck and they are arguably the biggest basketball market. I wouldn't say Miami is a big market. (They're the 16th largest TV market. That is behind Minneapolis.)

The most important thing with the NBA is having a GM who doesn't have his head up his ass.

The one thing that sucks is that you can't build slowly in the NBA. The system rewards bottoming out. So if you have a bad GM you're shit forever. If you successfully hit rock bottom and get unlucky in the draft it just becomes a terrible cycle. I don't know how you can fix it.

I love that the Lakers were able to sign another unlikable super star. Well done guys. 10 more years of hate.

Like ISOS said this could go terribly. I kind of wonder if Howard was exaggerating his injury. If not who knows what could happen with his back. Everyone else on the team is old.

    Re: Sporots

Quick comment about players complaining that they want out of town: it is a GOOD idea to bitch to the media if you are an unhappy player. It may crater your trade value but that's actually a good thing for the player. The last think the malcontent actually wants is to have his new team give up real value for him. That helps the team he is leaving, not him. Complaining can make a player less popular which can make it easier for the team to trade him without fan backlash. More importantly, talking to the press is one of the few ways that a player can assert some power.

Bitch away, superstars, that's the point of earning superstar status.

This Red Sox/Dodgers trade is picking up scary momentum. As of now, it's Gonzalez, Beckett, Crawford (plus cash), and Punto for De La Rosa, Mystery Prospect #1, Loney, Sands, and De Jesus. I like it so far, and it's easy to convince myself that they're not just trying to buy a championship because this will effectively take them out of the free agent market for the next couple of years (outfield is set for 5 years). They're just doing their shopping a little bit early, that's all. Plus, there's no way there will ever be a hall of fame pitcher with the first name of Rubby. Can't happen.

Matt Flynn is the real deal and wherever he goes next year will prove that.
Matt Flynn had a great day against a defense that looked strong in September and like dogshit down the stretch. Matt Flynn is unlikely to be a great QB in his own right. He's a 7th round pick who I remember laughing at the last time he played against Detroit. He is going to be Matt Cassell with an even smaller NFL sample size and the team that gives him a huge contract will wonder why they didn't waste the money on, say, Kevin Kolb or Charlie Whitehurst.
Flynn is the real deal, man. It's not easy to come in off of the bench at the end of a game at that position and level of play and do it well. If this kid starts for a team (AFC) next year, he will do well. I'm not saying he is going to be one of the best in the league, especially having to learn a new system and new people... but by the end of the season, he will be doing some wacky shit that shows just how great the Packers develop players. Your point about his place in the draft means nothing, by the way... the Packers are where they are at because they are the very best at spotting those quietly talented guys that go late in the draft. You'll see.... it's tough to argue about this now, but I'd say that around game eight or nine of next season Flynn is going to start showing a lot of people a lot of things.

If this 14.99/mo Pac-12 on DTV thing ends up being true, I'm gonna be pissed, I'll pay it during football season, but I'm not happy about it.

Time Warner actually did something cool: gave us P12 Network as part of the sporots pack.

    Re: Sporots

It's only been one game, so I don't want to build him up too much, but RG3 is probably the greatest human to ever play the position of quarterback who will surely put all other professional athletes of all positions and sports to shame, bowing before the altar of RG3 for all of eternity; Tom Brady and Peyton Manning soon shall hang it up saying, "I quit. This guy is too good."; Michael Jordan will soon issue a statement demanding sports journalists never speak of him again as his achievements will never measure up to the brilliant career that is basically foretold for him by the stars themselves. After the next several 35+ point games and wins for RG3 (basically 100% guaranteed at this point), in an unprecedented move, the Lombardi Trophy will be handed to the Redskins in late-September/early-October. All Hail. Hail! To those Redskins! Yes! It is more or less an offensive racial epithet, a relic of a name that has no business representing a team in 2012, but we will overlook that for the moment!! One game has been played that has given a glorious vision of the future to the way-too-devoted-for-the-past-20-years-of-embarrassing-failure fanbase!!! It is a new day!!!!!!!!
