Damn, that's a shame. I feel like the Beastie Boys were one of those groups that I've thought was cool ever since I started listening to music.

I saw them live a few years ago and it was awesome. They were really funny and their set list went: hit, punk song, hit, dub freak out, hit, punk song, etc. People forget that they were actually had the goods and wen't just pop hip-hop.

Truly an MC to a degree that you can't get in college.

    Total fucking bummer.

Never got to see them perform live, but I've been listening since middle school when Hello Nasty dropped. They were such a huge part of my teenage years and beyond. RIP, MCA. You had an actual conscience to go along with your superstardom.

Re: RIP MCA of the Beastie Boys

I can't even process the fact that the most important band in my life since I was 12 is no more. MCA was so many different things to the group over the years: the crazy one, the funny one, the drunkest, the druggiest, the pimpest, the directorial mastermind, the master of disguise, the spiritual center, the social conscience... He was also indisputibly the best MC (not much of a contest maybe, but he had skills on another level, as heard on his one-man demolition "Year and a Day" in the B-Boy Bouillabaisse that ends Paul's Boutique). Just a terrible loss. I feel lucky that I got to see them perform a handful of times, from the '92 club show that will always be my favorite live experience ever, to Lollapalooza '94, to the turntable in the round at the Forum, to the instrumental album tour stop at the Greek that turned out to be a regular show with all the b-boy flavors... They were always great. The line that keeps running through my head, for no good reason: "Nothin' wrong with my leg I'm just b-boy limpin'"...

Sorry for your loss, Matt. I'm a BB fan, but I know you were a superfan. Take solace in all the great times & shows you experienced.

I saw them in 86, Fishbone was the opening band. Also saw them at Lollapalooza 94 in Indianapolis and they rocked it.

Super bummed by this news. I knew he had been sick for a while, but I thought he was out of the woods with it. I don't wanna live in a world where Beastie Boys can die...

Someone embed this thread with an MP3 of his verse from Professor Booty on an endless loop.

Honestly one of the very few rap groups that I have ever enjoyed. Very sad to hear the news. RIP MCA.

These guys were my life from like 89 - 99...

rest in peace for sure. He did do a lot of good with his time here, what more could one ask for.

it's really bumming me out a lot though... been a rough day. That's the power of music, I guess.

Re: RIP MCA of the Beastie Boys

The day I found out they added Mixmaster Mike to replace Hurricane was one of the happiest days of my life to that point (I was easily excitable). Seeing the In the Round tour with Money Mark and Tribe Called Quest opening remains another highlight of my life, even to this day. Sometimes I think I'm just being nostalgic and maybe the show wasn't as good as I remember but then I watch the video below and YES IT WAS THAT FUCKING GOOD.

    RIP Yauch.

In 94' (one of the many times I saw them) Adam told the crowd, in between songs, that a McDonalds delivery truck had been found with a dead gorrilla in the back of it. I think about that all the time.

Best concert I have ever been to was watching the Beastie Boys (1994) at the Turtle Bay Hilton on Oahu at sunset, sharing a 40 with my cousin. RIP MCA, you made road trips most awesome.
