Thread: Repo! The Genetic Opera

    Repo! The Genetic Opera

I went to a screening of Repo! The Genetic Opera in Santa Barbara last night, and I'm still trying to put my brain back together after seeing it. I loved it, it was kind of amazing.
But it was a whole lot of movie to process, being an opera and everything.
It comes out on Novemeber 7 and, those of you who live anywhere near one of the nine theaters at which at will be playing, I highly recommend it.

Here are a trailer and the website if you are interested.

Dammit, I thought this was going to be a musical based on Repo Man...

I went with her to the screening and I totally agree with her on everything!

Go check it out if you can especially since you're not going to hear much about it press wise since Lionsgate has dropped the ball on that!

Seeing this tonight, and I think the composer/guy who played Graverobber is going to be in attendance. I can't wait -- I've heard from a few sources that this is the best/worst thing ever!

I really hope this gets a wider release.

Oh did they, lillian one post?
What was the best concert you've been to?

-- Probably Sade. It was just so sexy and relaxing.

I would totally watch a show called 'Lillian One-Post, Internet Message Board Movie Publicist".

It actually wasn't a bad movie. I think they just need to get publicity any way they can, so they're trying to market it as campy and ridiculous. The most ridiculous scenes have been released on Youtube, but they're not that representative of the rest of the movie. The music is actually really good for the most part, and I was blown away by Anthony Stewart Head's singing (and Paul Sorvino's too, come to think of it).

I don't think I'm the target audience for the movie, but I still really enjoyed it. It stuck with me more than Sweeney Todd, which I thought was pretty overrated. The theater where I saw Repo! had a bad sound system (I think everything was routed through the center channel speakers) so I couldn't make out some of the lyrics. I might see it again if it comes back to a better theater.

Overall, I'd say the AV Club's review is pretty on-the-money -- they gave it a B. I don't know if this will become the new Rocky Horror or anything, but I think it'll find its audience and be a pretty big cult hit.
