Thanks slothborn! Hopefully my dog hasn't been traumatized.

I got a call from the rescue organization and was interviewed over the phone. Next, I have two (!) home visits/inspections scheduled. Dude was hell of serious about dog placement.

Yeah, they are really good/intense about placement. My parents had to go through some hoops as well. Including a couple of "socials" with a lot of people and a lot of dogs. I think it's good, because the people giving them our dogs probably knew that the one dog was a little jumpy every once in a while but not dangerous in any way. I don't want to oversell that part of it. She's a real sweetheart.

Our dog was rescued from an abusive situation as well including one very specifically brutal and traumatizing incident where the SPCA found her. She was very depressed and mopey with a handful of health and psychological issues. She was afraid of people and for a good month wouldn't go up or down any stairs in our house (the list goes on). By far the most rewarding experiences have been seeing her slowly overcome those fears and get back to being a regular dog again. It can take some time for the dogs to adjust to their new surroundings especially if it's as different as being raised around the track but just be patient. I don't mean to assume that your dog will have any issues but just to reassure you that our dog is the ultimate example of a traumatized rescue dog and she turned out great. I'm sure you'll have a much better experience. There was a time when we didn't know if she was ever going to adjust but she did eventually and now she's a lovable oaf.

For example if took roughly two months to teach her to play with toys, now just try to take her rope from her

So my landlord wouldn't let me get a large dog (Greyhound). I was so bummed. Instead of staying angry, I went to the the pound and found the perfect dog. His name is Henry and he's about a year old Border Terrier/Dachshund mix:

He never barks, he always wants to be around his people, loves cuddles and loves burrowing. Sweetest dude ever! Oh, and he came housebroken and groomed. Someone loved this dog although not enough to give it a collar and microchip. Their loss is my gain?

My pound adoption process was great and I encourage anyone thinking of getting a dog to go to animal control first. There are some awesome dogs there who don't have long to live. Henry was days away from being euthanized (they charge you less for adoption the longer they've been there... I paid the minimum).

We found this shaggy cocker spaniel sitting in a parking lot by my house a month or two ago and put out ads and signs. Nobody answered. Her name's Lucy now. That's Sadie in the background.

We cleaned her up a bit. I like her previous look more, but I'm sure she's way more comfortable like this, especially with it getting hot outside. Big fan of this pup.

New dog lesson of the day: dogs can develop allergies to flea bites, which makes them chew up their fur horribly. It's not like she's crawling with fleas either, I advantixed her up a week ago. Apparently all it takes is one bite.

Luckily there are pills that kill all the fleas on a dog's body immediately. She's on those for 3 days while I basically fumigate my place.
    I'm in.
