    Poker thread

Remember this old thread? I'm playing poker on Sunday and I thought I would bring this back.

I played a couple of weeks ago and came in second when the 3 big boys just kept going at each other while I stuck it out. My biggest win yet - $70!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I played okay and then I made a big mistake and I hated myself the whole night. I was playing against someone and I had QJ. I can't remember if I raised pre-flop but either way it was just me and another guy. He was up first after the flop and the cards were something like 8-9-8 or something. The big blind was 500 and he bet a thousand so I thought he was just trying to limp in for some reason. I raised him all in and he had frickin' a pair of 9s. Bummer. I have trouble paying attention to the way everyone bets, there are just too many factors involved. I need some kind of memory classes.

Or you can just get PokerTracker. That way all the analysis of other players is done for you, as well as keeping track of your own play. A lot of people use it, which is one reason why I don't play much online.

Guys, on Stars my name is deepchord. I finally earned enough FPPs to have the ability to make private tournaments (as I mentioned in the last board's thread). Even if we could only get 6 people to turn out, it might be fun to organize an AST-only tournament.

    Takers?

If you forget, just fall back on the odds. If he min-raised UTG, then you should've check-folded on every street unless you hit top pair (and only maaaybe then, your J kicker isn't a license for insane aggression). Anyhow, he had a set which is ridiculously hidden... whaddya gonna do. I would've checked/called the flop, too (if I was the villain who flopped the nuts against you, that is).

I was playing at a friend's house. Do they have a jukebox-sized version of this program I can have next to me at a table?

That would be fun! I would need some help getting set up though - and what's the minimum amount you can put into PokerStars? I have an account on there but I don't have any real money except .99 that is left over from a free $5 I was given for signing up. I don't like to play for more than $10 or so (and my wife doesn't like it either).

Of course, if you guys are talking more then I won't even bug you big ballers.

I think the minimum deposit is $25. I'm fine with a $10 tournament.

okay - let's set it up then! I can't do it any time soon (by soon I mean this weekend) but let's schedule one.

I'm still in-what's the best money service to use to transfer in?

    Re: Poker thread

It'll take credit cards/debit cards which is probably the best thing to pick. Beyond that, the Instant e-Checks thing works well... same with Click2Pay.

PokerStars has pretty great customer support so if you have any issues just email them and they will usually respond within an hour (usually 20 minutes).

    Re: Poker thread

I thought it was technically illegal now so you had to go through some special international service?

    Re: Poker thread

It is, on paper, illegal for your bank to allow the transfer of money (the burden is on the institution, not the individual). There isn't any enforcement, however. The UIGEA, the law responsible for this, was a porky addendum to a port safety bill... nobody seriously gave/gives a shit about enforcing it. The charge DOES show up as something generic and weird and that doesn't inspire confidence. That said, I've never had a problem (both CC and eCheck services).
