    non-comedy podcasts you like

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/history/...me/index.shtml

Someone posted this show, IN OUR TIME, on AST a long while back... I figured I'd ressurect this thread with the link and a suggestion for the shows: "Alexander Pope," "Wittgenstein," & "Negative numbers"

I enjoy the BS report with bill simmons, but i'm not sure that strays too far from being considered "comedy".

Other recommended IOTs, off the top of my head:

    Kierkegaard
    Fibonacci
    Avicenna
    Norman Yoke

    I really liked:

    Lysenko
    Karl Popper
    Indian Maths

I hate the really British ones where I have no clue what they're even talking about.

Radioarchive.cc has archives of IOT and other shows, mainly BBC type stuff.

There's a podcast called Big Ideas which is either really great, or kinda lame depending on who is on it, cuz it's just lecturers.

I'm a big fan of Lenswork, a podcast about photography that doesn't emphasize it's technical aspects as much as its philosophical/creative aspects.

Yeah I usually listen to the BS Report, but he has been getting on my nerves lately. Endless talk about Boston and after a while Bill's sense of humor can get old. He usually has good guests though.

    Crap from the Past.

And yet another vote for Bill Simmons. I gotta respect anyone that will bring up 90210 or Real World in the middle of a sports conversation.

RadioLab - A terrific hour long podcast of the WNYC public radio show, based around science in modern culture.
Skeptoid: Critical Analysis of Pop Phenomena - A Short format, skeptical inquiry podcast, usually based around a single topic per episode.
Sound Opinions - "The World's only rock and roll talkshow," based out of Chicago Public Radio.
Homestar Runner Podcast - iPod friendly versions of selected Homestar Runner Cartoons
The Skeptic's Guide to The Universe - A longer format show, put out my the New England Skeptical Society, covering a variety of science topics in the week's news. Usually also an interview with a prominent scientist or skeptic.
Skepticality - The Official Podcast of Skeptic Magazine. Typically interviews with prominent figures in science and the skeptical movement.
Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me! - NPR show based around the week's news. It is comedic, but it's not directly related to comedy.

I'll second Wait, Wait. Good stuff.

    For tech nerdery...
Buzz Out Loud from CNET is good for tech news, and pretty entertaining.
I listen to a couple of things from the TWiT network (www.twit.tv). "security Now", TWiT, and Windows Weekly are my favorites.

I tried getting into Bill Simmons' stuff, but the man seems to ignore any sports teams whose home base isn't in the North East. There are teams outside of Boston Bill!

I like your lineup peaceman, Radio Lab has been ignored by me for far to long as it has been recommended plenty. Wait, Wait I've caaught on the radio, also good. I've tried skeptoid which is quick and cool (sometimes I wish they were longer), I'll try the other one.

I'll add "The Treatment", an hour long with a filmmaking guest about, well the guest and their work and film in general.

I agree. It's so nauseating how much he talks about Boston on there and how badly the Celtics needed another ring. Shut the fuck up already.

Sorry, it's just that there isn't a sports thread anymore.

The Treatment is 30 minutes, not an hour, and I agree that it is excellent.

    It's back!

I especially hate how Simmons talks about how the Red Sox and Patriots are the epitome of sports perfection. God forbid he give the Detroit Red Wings a little credit for being arguably the most successful sports franchise of the last 15 years. They've only got the second longest string of consecutive playoff playoff appearances in sports EVER!

That being said, You Look Nice Today is another good podcast.

Hey, you just had the Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me! epiphany!

Also, how can you stand the Skeptics Guide? It's a weekly radio show dedicated to proving how smart the hosts are.
