He's without a doubt the team MVP and he's young yet. We were in that race for the last playoff spot with the Caps because of his stellar play between the pipes. If the Jets D can play smarter in front of him this year and stay out of the box a bit more his stats will reflect better what a solid netminder he is.

Pavelec was definitely very impressive in every Jets game I saw this season. He also had the undisputed 'Save of the Year':

I don't know if you follow @twolinepass - or read him on PuckDaddy - but he has been ripping exactly this line of thought since the end of the season. Basically says that Pavelec doesn't just have bad stats he has bottom-of-the-league stats and blaming it on the defense is a ticket to substantially overpaying him.

As a sharks fan I've heard it all. Goalie is great, D is bad. (same) goalie is terrible, D is great. It's almost like there has to be this invisible balance, granted by the hockey gods.

I knew how close the jets were to the playoff's, but his GVT stat is super terrible. It can't all be D can it?

Keep in mind, my team is confident in rolling with a Niemi-Greiss tandem, so...

We had D injuries all year and rarely had our core 6 guys out there. That having been said I saw 17 games this year and he was great in all of them, but it was the turn overs and stupid choices our D made (especially in the remaining 5 minutes of games) that cost him so many W's.
I may end up eating my hat but I really think we'll see a break out year from Pavs this season.

Dennis Wideman's contract in Calgary is one of the funniest jokes I've ever heard.

The Kings are about to sign Quick to a 10-year extension! Yay! Yikes!

Jets just picked up Jokinen, here's hoping he does a bit better than his 23 goals last year in Calgary. I think it's a good signing, Ponikarovsky not so much, another Russian that takes shifts off whenever he feels like it isn't something the Jets need more of (see Antropov). I hope Alexei makes me eat my hat.

Zach Parise went to the the Dwight Howard school of decision-making.

It's crazy how Parise/ Ryan Suter decisions are a dutch boys thumb plugging the damn. The rest of the big stuff is just waiting to overflow once those two make up their damn*minds. I'm still hoping Ottawa, however unlikely it's looking now, still manages to snag Nash. I'll eat my hat if he goes to Pittsburgh.

    *see what I did there?

Super stoked about it, but he's got one more year left in Sweden. Then, assuming he doesn't continue to be a mega-douche, we get Kuznetsov the year after that. Feeling pretty okay about the Caps long term forecast.

But in the meantime, I want to know what other team I'll be rooting for this year*, because I can't help but love the NHL's favorite enigma. I really can't believe nobody has got him yet, no matter what his repuation is. The guy is just too skilled to just be sitting out there. And he really did up his discipline and two-way play 1000% in the second half of last season, though sure, could have just been for show knowing his contract was up... In any event, I'd love to see him in Detroit playing on a line with Datsyuk, they were unbelievable together at Worlds.

*This statement not valid if it ends up being the Penguins, though I'll still root for him personally doing well.

What is with you and your Russian boner?

(Semin would fit nicely in a Jets jersey)

We just signed Wellwood for another year. almost a 20 goal scorer, contributed 45 points, he is a good sign for us short term as he fits in anywhere.

    Ohhhh I'm crying so much...

Canes could be scary next year. OR they could be taking a lot more offensive zone stick penalties.

...or there could be no season at all.

I'm very fatalistic and sad today.

Since we're getting all faggoty about losing Russians, I'm not to happy about the rumour that Burmistrov is opting to play in the K this season instead of returning to the Jets line up.
