I'm pulling for both the Ducks and Kings to make the playoffs, but I fear the three remaining games against each other - including a "home and home" series to end the regular season - might prevent that from happening. Hoping for three 3-point games in those, and for the Kings to avoid another cold streak before season's end.
I don't think that would be a very good slogan, as I'm sure you're very serious about it. The NHL shouldn't chase these people by any means, and they shouldn't have to. I just think it could be a natural byproduct of there not being America's favorite sport to watch -- more people will be inclined to watch their local hockey team. Most of these people may not like the game, but if even a fourth are not reflexively dismissive of the sport for whatever reason and find themselves entertained by hockey (a game that doesn't stop the action every 10 seconds), and start actively following their team and the league, that would be an undeniably huge surge in popularity for the NHL.
I believe the sport has been seeing a pretty steady increase in interest since the NHL lockout, and the NFL lockout very well could be a kind of stimulus of fans to the sport.

You know who is a fan of commerce? The NHL. Without commerce, you don't have the NHL or any of its teams.
Look, I love hockey. Great game. But it's also a business that needs money to flow into it in order to have really nice rinks, player's salaries, and televisual broadcast.
Hockey in its pure form still exists. The Manitoba Junior Hokey leave would be glad to count you as a fan. You could even take in a nice Manitoba Moose game. But that may be tainted by, you know, commerce.
Nice rink for what? So the empty seats look great in high definition while you and your ilk wait for the kick ass commercials?
You seem to be willfully missing my point in favor of snark.
Defend empty arenas all you like, trying to bring beach volleyball to Iceland because there are enough people there to watch commercials during the breaks is asinine.
Where exactly in Canada should the Coyotes go? Sincere question, no snark attached.

Winnipeg is of course the clear choice, given the strong financial ownership waiting in the wings, a close to 16,000 seat facility and a rabid built in fan-base however, Bettman's desire to keep as many teams in the states as possible may see them going to Kansas city.
Quebec is another strong possibility, but lacks the deep pockets that the Chipman's and True North bring to the table.
Atlanta, another "what were they thinking" franchise, is also in deep water and could also end up in either of these three cities.
Congratulation to Joey McDonald for his first shutout with the Wings! He survived a 5 on 3 and stoned Rick Nash a couple of times.
I wish Nash wouldn't act like such a baby when his team is losing. I've noticed on multiple occasions when the Wings are dominating the Jackets that he acts like 10 year old who isn't getting his way. He's such a talented player and I'd have more respect if he just stuck to playing hard instead of whining and trying to get rough with our team for no reason.
I hope Rafalski and Datsyuk are OK who both had to go to the dressing room after taking hits.
I'll be at the Wings v Pens came this coming Monday and really hope Crosby returns. I love seeing him lose in person. He's talented yes but a a Dbag just the same. Bettman has tried to make him the NHL's Lebron instead of focusing on showcasing a team's talent. Last game Detroit/Pittsburgh game I was at a guy had a giant sign that said "Crosby sucks" on one side and "Bettman sucks" on the other and about the middle of the 2nd period security came down and took it away from him. Detroit is not know for it's crassness when it comes to taunting the other team so I found it odd that this particular time it was reprimanded.

An extensive timeline of the dirty play of Matt Cooke, with some added commentary on what an enabler Dan Bylsma is.
Yes, but note how only one of those hits was on a Capital (sure, it was Ovechkin) and in the comments someone posted video of hits by Ovechkin and Mike Green that resulted in suspension, to which the author of the post conceded that he thought those were suspension-worthy hits and that the punishments were fair. But it's ludicrous to compare those two with any of the video posted in that article and wrap your head around the fact that a guy who is notorious in the league for being perhaps its dirtiest player has served all of 10 games total of suspension in his career.
Sure, it's weird. Hell, as a Pens fan, I think Cooke is a bit of a liability at this point in the season.
But that post came from a Caps blog. All but one of those videos were when Cooke is on the Pens. You're telling me that if he's the dirtiest player in the league, that they couldn't find more than one video of a 'dirty' Cooke hit from his nine seasons on the Canucks? Or one while he was in Washington? It's not like Pittsburgh made him play the way he does.
I think that Bylsma could stand to me more bellicose about it. Obviously a coach shouldn't say "Oh yeah, he definitely should have gotten a penalty for that," when one wasn't called, but as you say, it's not in the Penguins' interest to have Cooke doing shit like this:

The Penguins are plenty talented enough without Cooke gunning to send players to the hospital. The guy is a liability to the team, and the league, because it's only a matter of time until he seriously hurts someone even worse than Chara did in Montreal. I don't get how he's handled with kid gloves, especially when he seems to be wearing murder gloves.
But I'm really just complaining about him because I'm trying not to think about how the Caps will fare against the Flyers tomorrow sans Ovechkin, Arnott, and still no Mike Green...
EDIT: Don Cherry sums it up nicely here, and this features non-Pens dirty Cooke clips:

2ND EDIT: The NHL has suspended Cooke for the rest of the regular season and first round of the playoffs. He'll be out $220k for missing these games. Good job, NHL.
