I borrowed my friend's PS3 and played through Uncharted 2 and 3. Those games look amazing. Some of the lighting effects and large scale stuff is more impressive than anything I've seen on the Xbox... and I'm a total Xbox apologist. I was really, really impressed with the graphics. The games are pretty fun too, but nothing spectacular gameplay wise. They're basically Prince of Persia games with shooting... and the shooting isn't so great.

I used to think that about the shooting in Uncharted games until I stopped trying to blaze through them like a mad man. I don't know how you played them but when I took my time and tried to go through them without being seen as much as I could it really made the shooting a lot more fun. But, even when you couldn't do that, what I most liked about the games is that they don't let up. Uncharted 3 is non-stop action from beginning to end.

I've finally got a computer that can actually play games produced in the last 7 years, so I'm playing Dragon Age!

I tried playing Dalish Elf first, but that was boring. Then I rolled a Human Warrior, even more boring. Last night I created a City Elf, and it was awesome. The City Elf opening story is like a non-lingo-y Tarantino movie.

EDIT - Also I realized that you can strip those two apprentice grey wardens of their weapons and armor after completing the first quest. The cutscenes where they die are incredibly ridiculous when they're both naked.
    I'm in.

Dragon Age is one of most engaging RPGs I've ever played. At its core the story is very cliché, but the characters are makes it amazing. The ending ripped my heart out.

Also, the Mage opening chapter is where it's at son!

I feel like that game is trying to out-"Mature" Grand Theft Auto. Just a lot of sex and violence.

It's Dead Rising 2, in case anyone is wondering, and the game is a riot.

Replaying Arkham City and still fucking love it. The Harley Quinn DLC was really, really short though.

post steam sale games extravaganza has begun with me finally putting down The Binding of Isaac and getting into Civilization 5 and the Total War series. It has been a nice change of pace. I'm playing those games and whatever else fills my time til Dark Souls is out end of august.

I've been playing the hell out of The Binding of Isaac as well. Some of the powerups are shitty, though, and I rage when I get to the item room and get one of them.

I'm working on a Binding of Isaac guide, will link it here when I finish

as for crummy items I just take a deep breath and repeat the mantra, it could always be Lemon Mishap*

*potentially the worst 'good' item in the game

Was just browsing the Nintendo eShop and I saw a game called Ace Mathician.

"Help your kids improve their math skills while they unlearn English!"

Also (and to wash off the taste of that joke), I will mention that I pre-ordered a 3DS XL today. I already have a 3DS but I obviously need a bigger one. Duh!

I'm really tempted to buy a 3DS XL but I'll wait and see how one will feel in my hands. I also already own a 3DS. Not sorry to be an early adopter, if I waited I wouldn't have gotten those sweet Game Boy Advance freebies!

Re: This is the new games thread

I played this newer DLC game Deadlight for a few hours yesterday and alternated between really liking it and wanting to write the developers angry emails. It's a really great looking side scroller, but there are points where the controls make it insanely difficult to get past sections. At one point I shut it off while saying "GREAT GAME ASSHOLES"

The controls are fairly basic, but they aren't very accurate. It's overly hard to aim the gun... and specifically there's a sequence where you're running from a helicopter and have to jump over fences and I had to play through it like 15 times to beat it because I would get stuck on a fence. It's just kind of frustrating at points, the character doesn't do what you're intending him to do. It's one of those games that is difficult in stretches because of bad design or controls more than an actual difficult task. Overall, I think it's a pretty interesting game, at least visually. THere have just been a few points where I wanted to chuck my controller through a window.

EB Games a.k.a. Gamestop a.k.a. The Devil. Sadly the only place where I knew for sure I'd get one on launch day.
