Anyone else on here going to be playing Star Wars: The Old Republic? I've been playing in the early release for a few days now and the game is really fun. If you've never played an MMO before it is a pretty good one to start with. If there is some others on here who will be playing, it would be cool to start an AST guild. I am Lene on the Mask of Nihilus server.

Re: This is the new games thread

Spent an idle Saturday researching how to play the latest games with no system. I found two pretty good solutions: OnLive and Gaikai. They're both cloud gaming services, so you need to have a decent hookup to play through them. No Skyrim (dammit), but I was able to demo Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age 2. Color me impressed!

Then I found out I can buy Dragon Age Origins for the mac for like $20, so now I'm doing that.
    I'm in.

Me too, but I don't have a lot of hope. Cyanide Studios has never had a hit game, and Martin has a very long history of licensing GoT for quick cash-ins.

DA:O is a tremendous game, if the port holds up you should be in for a good time! I think I put in 120+ hours on one playthrough. (I was also unemployed at the time, so you might want to get in that headspace )

It's great so far! I think it's actually a Wine/Cider port of the PC game, so it's exactly the same as what you find on Windows.

One of my favorite parts of KOTOR way back in the day was the combat system. I don't like real-time combat in RPGs, but BioWare found a nice balance with the pause/orders screen. Then Mass Effect came along and made it needlessly complicated/weird. I was worried that'd carry over to DA, but they do it right!

Does anyone with any newer games think I could come over sometime when you're not there and play them? I mean, you won't be there, so it's not like you would even notice. Just .txt me.

Some people like Dragon Age 2, but I think it's for a completely different kind of player who didn't like Origins.

It commits one of my least favorite RPG crimes- it makes you play as the lead character looking one way for a bit, then goes "oh hey, do you want to customize this dude? Yeah, your take on what he looks like is totally canon now. Sure, nerd."

Then the story is on some very strict rails, with lots of cutscenes and "5 years later" jumps. And even though you can "import" your Origins game, that entire universe is never really referenced. It's an RPG for people who wish there was only action games and in no way a sequel. Those are real people, but I found it really condescending and boring.

    But yeah, go Origins.

I'm going to gift myself a Kinect shortly. Any Kinect-specific games that people are particularly fans of?

The kinect is kind of horrible so far. I haven't touched mine in months. The only game worth playing at all, at least to me, was Child of Eden. It actually used the kinect in an interesting way. The Dance Central game was fun for a second, but only because I beat my girlfriend and it really bothered her.

I finally went ahead and finished the main questline on Skyrim the other night so now the array of choices of what to do are even more overwhelming than before. I spent 3 hours last night just swimming around the Sea Of Ghosts trying to find shit. I'm supposed to be working from home today but all I want to do is go in the bedroom and play and horn in on my wife's playing time. This game is killing me.

I can't wait for this quote to be used against you in court.

Someone bought me a Wii for Christmas, what are some good games for grown ups that don't involve shooting people in the face?

Re: This is the new games thread

So, I got a Kinect and once again, GameStop sold me something used for the full new price. First, the box clearly has been opened and then another circle sticker put over it to make it seem liked it hadn't. Then, I take it out of the box to find that it's missing the sticker on top to keep smudges off of the top and in its place are the handprint of an 8 year old. The twist ties have clearly been undone and redone.

I don't know why I even bother with that fucking place anymore. What a bunch of fucking assholes.

That aside, I played Kinect Adventures for the last 3 hours and I am sore. That handball minigame is my new workout for now.

With the Wii, your best bet is to just stick to games made by Nintendo. All of the Mario games have been good. I would also recommend picking up a Wii motion plus controller if the system didn't come with one, and getting Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, and Wii Sports Resort.

Thanks for that. I've never been a Zelda fan though.

I got a Mario game with it, and a motion plus controller.

Lets say I did want to shoot stuff in the face, is it work picking up a Call of Duty title or should I just wait for Skyrim to come out on the Leapfrog?
