My wife talked me into watching "Young@Heart" the other night, which is a documentary about a group of seniors who sing modern-ish rock songs as a chorus. Started the movie ready to hate it, found myself enjoying it, cried at the end and was sad it was over. You will believe Coldplay songs can be good, so long as they're sung by an 87-year-old man.

Holy "Fuck You, Chelios", word on the street is Crank 2: High Voltage is now on Instant Play. In the event you haven't seen this cinematic masterpiece yet, you must do so immediately.

Is there nudity. I can watch movies with swearing in them at work but boobs could get me fired. Also, what am I missing from Crank 1 that I need to know before moving on to Crank 2?

Do ladies with no clothes on count as nude?

The thing you need from Crank 1 is basically internal. You need to look within yourself and learn just how easy it is for the part of your brain that screams "this movie represents absolutely everything that's wrong with our crass, shallow culture in general and the moral and intellectual bankruptcy of Hollywood in particular" can be beaten into total submission by the part of your id that's still a 13 year old boy who understands that these movies are the best thing about life since you figured out you could dump a pack of lik-m-aid into mountain dew and dunk brownies in it.

    So yeah, boobs aplenty.

The only thing you need for Crank 2 is a high tolerance for incredibly annoying bullshit and a love of genital mutilation.

I'm half way there. (Guess which half.)

I never saw the first one. I love the second with all my heart and soul.

One of the greatest joys in life is sharing the Crank movies with someone who has yet to see them.

Also, Gamer gets a bad rap but it's in the same boat, by the same guys, and entertaining for very similar reasons. Not as good, but still... gave me the same giddy visceral reaction.

I've only seen the first Crank, but along those lines I found Shoot 'Em Up to be infinitely more enjoyable.

I was real mad at Shoot 'Em Up. The first Crank is awesome, the second one is just a series of things happening. What the first one has going for it is the adrenaline angle plays into the fact that it's an action movie and totally badass stuff makes adrenaline happen. For electrocuting yourself to serve the same function it would have to be an E-Stim fetish film.

Downton Abbey is on streaming now, if you like Gosford Park kind of stuff.

Crank 2 and Downtown Abbey. Two peas from the same pod.

    That Mitchell and Webb Look.
Almost as funny as Peep Show.

If you're in the mood to be emotionally wrecked for a couple days, totally check out "Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father." It's a ridiculously good documentary and one of the saddest things I've seen in recent years.

Crank is like an asshole bodybuilder who takes himself too seriously. Crank 2 is that same bodybuilder realizing how ridiculous he looks.
    I'm in.

    Re: Netflix Instant recommendations?

I just watched Dumbstruck on JPSpaulding's recommendation, it follows the lives of 5 ventriloquists. HuffPo's description of two characters:

There's 13-year-old Dylan, a white kid with an African-American puppet - and one with braids, no less. Kimberly is a former Miss Ohio in her early 30s, who's been playing children's safety shows almost daily for years and longs to break into the cruise-ship circuit.

(there's no way in hell she's actually 31 like she says she is...)

    Also there's this guy.

Give it a watch, it's an interesting look at a weird culture.

Crank does not take itself seriously at all, the main difference is it has some semblance of a plot. The second one is more like a list than a movie.

Yeah, the first Crank is already the asshole bodybuilder realizing how ridiculous he looks, and Crank 2 is that same bodybuilder doubling his steroid dosage anyway.
