I'm using it for joke writing and comedy, just like Seinfeld, but you guys use it for whatever if you think it'll work.
Do you think it'll work?

If you're motivated, you're motivated. Habits like Seinfeld's help reinforce doing what you want to do. That being said, keeping yourself honest and tracking your efforts to reward yourself and have perspective on how much you are working toward your goal is great.
Doing anything in a continuum where there is no big defining middle or end it's hard to see the progress and achievements because there's always another joke to write and perform, another gig to do, lather rinse repeat. Keeping track of your milestones is a good way to say "hey I did all this stuff".
I keep my set lists and blog.
