    Making Up Rumours

Some times at a party or when I'm with my girlfriend I like to lie about stuff for fun.

What are some rumours you think could plausibly be believed? I for one think that when Fargo comes up as many people as possible should say "you know that the guy who played Steve Buscemi's partner used to be in Right Said Fred, right?"

Have you convinced someone of something you made up just for fun?
What was the best concert you've been to?

-- Probably Sade. It was just so sexy and relaxing.

When I was in a rap group, we put Old Navy logos on our flyers and wore Old Navy jeans when we rapped (which we already had, admittedly) and told everyone we were sponsored by them. People were surprised and convinced.

I made a whole messageboard believe I got accepted for the third (non-existing) season of Rock Star, with a song called "I want to nibble on your nipple".

A few years ago my friend convinced his entire school that his name was Takashi Yakamashi. Given he is korean, but the believed him for almost 2 months. The same friend and I also were on a swim team together and at one point we got a new coach and we convinced the coach that my friend had Tourette's.

There was a guy in high school who everyone just assumed that he had three balls but I'm not sure why. I just remember that every time I would walk past him my friend would always stop mid-conversation and say out loud, "and there were THREE of them!"

Also, there was a rumor that this one guy rode his bike naked without a seat and it was passed around so much that you would see it written on random desks throughout the school.

It must've been a let down when you found out he actually was gay.

    Re: Making Up Rumours

i used to be in a band, and we toured the east coast for a while. on the second day, we picked up a friend of the guitarist to accompany us on the rest of the trip. he had one of those little insulated lunchboxes that are made of soft plastic.

i asked him what was in it, and my guitarist friend "man, he's diabetic. it's his insulin. don't be a dick about it."

so i felt really bad, and during the trip i would ask polite questions about diabetes - the kind of questions that come out when you spend a month with someone. i asked how you get diabetes, what he has to do for it, when he found out, that sort of shit.

on the last day of the tour we were unpacking the van and i said, "oh, shit, drew forgot his insulin bag." and somebody in another band laughed and said, "you dipshit. it's just his lunch in there."

and they were right. i got punk'd!

One that I always liked happened to a friend of mine. She went to a party and, unbeknownst to her, another friend went around to a bunch of people at the party and told them, in confidence, that the first friend was pregnant and yet she was still drinking a lot. It was supposed to be a secret and she didn't want anyone to know about the pregnancy. All throughout the night people would come up to her and try to subtly take drinks from her or stop her from drinking. She started freaking out that everyone must've thought she was an alcoholic. Only after the party did she find out what had really been going on. She thought it was hilarious.

In 10th grade French class, a friend brought her grandmother's engagement ring to class and I was plying w/ it. A stupid girl in class saw it and asked if I was getting married - I was 16, so naturally I said yes. So for the rest of the year my friend brought the ring to class each day and I wore it while my friend (who became my fake maid of honor) and I spun tales of my wedding, honeymoon, in laws, and so on all through my Junior year.

Oh, and once I created a fake Xanga account and convinced a bunch of racists from Oklahoma that they made my character kill herself.

My friend had everyone in our high school class believing that he was one of the little kids in the movie Hook - particularly, the reflection Robin Williams sees of his younger self in a pool of water.

Another one of my high school friends got a job at a Panera downtown and had everyone there convinced for a little over a year that he was from Ireland.
