    Yeah it is.

God I love this show. Does anyone know if it's definitely coming back for a 3rd season? What I read on the subject was pretty sketchy...

it's coming back for sure - what's in the balance is whether or not Weiner will be involved.

Here's my thinking: Remember the guy at the riding club Betty was flirting with? I think she slept with him behind our back and fell in love with him while he was just playing around. She tested him by hooking him up with one of her desperate housewife friends and was utterly disgusted when he slept with her as well. I never really understood why Betty became so enraged when she was the one who set them up to begin with, but now it makes more sense. Is it possible that the writers left out the fact that Betty slept with the guy? It is consistent with their style. Also, when was the last time Betty and Don slept together? They certainly haven't done it since her conversation with Jimmy so how long ago was that? Two months, three? If it's more than three Don may eventually figure it out - and that will lend a very interesting wrinkle to this storyline given that Don was abused by a step father because he was a bastard. Anyway it's just a theory.

The washing machine's! After all, didn't that "magic belt" make Peggy pregnant?

I hear you can catch those things from a toilet seat. And by things I mean babies.

Unless I'm missing something, didn't Betty jump on Don when they were sleeping over her father's house? It was right before he left for California, so three weeks before she found out she was pregnant.

I'd be really pissed if it comes out later that she slept with the guy at horse stable, just because it would be lame for the writers to go "oh yeah, this happened too, we just didn't tell you before."

I can't wait until next year. To me, the next season won't be that much different than this season. Don will continue to sleep around and hate himself for it because he can't help it. He's just a chameleon that doesn't know who he really is. He'll cheat and then feel guilty and that will be his turmoil.

That thing about the horse stable guy seems like nothing but speculation to me... and yes, she and Don had sex just a few weeks ago.

Yeah. I highly doubt the baby is someone else's. I always thought she set the stable guy up so that she wouldn't be tempted.

I agree. She was adamant about refusing horsey-boy, so it would strike me as going against the form that the show has worked very hard to create and maintain. Not that there aren't surprises, but there's usually at least a hint of foreshadowing, so the surprises seem plausible in retrospect.

    Re: Mad Men

It would be outside the storytelling style of the show for Betty to have had an affair during or before Don's separation and have the audience not be clued in. Betty's affair in the finale was not meant to hint that she's been doing that a while. It was just something she did out of desperation and loneliness.

Perhaps the writers also wanted to show her doing the holy triumvirate of smoking, drinking, and having unprotected sex with strangers all while pregnant to foreshadow the baby being born with flippers and an exposed heart.

Nice ending. I thought Duck's palace coup would end up in tears, and perhaps it will.

It seems the principals getting a load of Duck's temper, compared with Don's icy cool (shades of today's Presidential race!), will make them reconsider their initial decision.

The merger freakout among the mid-level staff is very familiar.

Yay for Peggy shutting down Pete. Yay for Don and Betty getting their acts together.

You know a show is good when the much-anticipated season finale ends with a husband and wife holding hands and there is not one single complaint by the viewers of feeling let down.

I very loudly cheered at my computer when Peggy said, "I could have shamed you into my life forever, but I didn't want it."

Also, I concede my theory about Peggy being an atheist is hogwash. They had other plans for that priest tension, obviously.

Paul is such a childish poser. He tries to impress on everyone how progressive he is, and yet he was the one whining like a baby that he just wants things to stay the same @ Sterling Cooper.

I wonder if Pete can allow himself to go back to his wife, now, after all that Peggy just unloaded on him. I was floored at how matter-of-factly he told Trudy that if he really loved her, he'd want to be by her side while world was ending. I wonder if he's grown up enough by now to devote himself to winning Peggy over.

Wow, I though the sex a her father's house was just Don dreaming, guess I have to watch that again. If that really did happen I guess that changes my theory although it doesn't really account for why Betty was such an utter bitch when the horse guy slept with her friend. That really came off like a spurned lover to me. Also it really seemed like Betty was holding some deeper secret back this entire episode - more than just being pregnant - but just couldn't find anyone to confide in. Betty's night at the bar was very symbolic - as if Betty had given in to her dark side just as Peggy was shedding hers.

I keep thinking about the finale and I really think that my favorite character is Pete. And it's not just that I think he's interesting, but I sympathize with him and root for him.

How? Why? Am I fucked up for thinking this?

    Re: Mad Men

I'm with Daveunfun, I like Pete. As for whether Pete will be able to face his wife again, there is no doubt. Pete has a lot of experience living with shame. Whether he is willing to do that and adopt a child, I wonder. I certainly hope not. As I said I like Pete, but I can't imagine him being a kind father to a child he doesn't want. He certainly isn't kind to his wife.
