P-p-p-promooo poster:
[edit: For some reason this isn't showing up, you can find it here: http://blogs.amctv.com/mad-men/mm6-key-art-700.jpg ]
Let's overanalyze it! I'll start.
The two Dons in the foreground with multiple police clearly visible right behind them leads me to think this season we may finally see the Don Draper / Dick Whitman story finally start to catch up with Don as far as the law is concerned. Though maybe since it seems that obvious to me on the poster, it'll be the last thing that happens. But in the past, the promo images have hinted to the broad themes that will be explored that season.
A lot more to sift through in this, too. Whose hand is he holding? Megan? Sally? Peggy? Someone else? What's up with the people in the background? The stop sign? The 'One Way' on Madison Avenue pointing Don to the Fuzz hot on his tail as he tries to walk in both directions away from them at the same time?

the don in the black suit is walking towards the camera with a lady's hand in his. the don in the grey suit (the man in the grey wool suit, the quintessential business man) is walking away with a briefcase in hand. makes me think there will be some sort of choice or crossroads set up where don chooses between his career and megan/whoever the lady in his life happens to be.
the madison avenue one way sign is pointing directly towards the cops and that seems to be the general direction that grey suit don is going. plus there's gotta be something to the airplane taking off in the background.
i'm terrible at this... but i look forward to other people's interpretations.
Ha! Who knows...I'm just glad to know that it will soon be back...I think, or hope, that the Dick Whitman past is fairly done...I mean, the US is getting heavy into Vietnam and the Korean War quickly becomes irrelevant. I agree that the two Dons could very well be some moral/ethical crossroads although with one road leading away from Madison Ave...Although, yeah, the police, hmmmmmm

I like that they broke the mold and did a cool sketch (like an advertising campaign mock-up?). Nifty!
What in the fuck was up with Betty's nonchalant rape chat with Francis?

So he accidentally wound up with the Pvt's lighter, and the Pvt has Don's lighter now? It looked like he threw it away at one point.
This episode was dripping with death imagery.
yeah, he threw the lighter away when he realized it wasn't his, but the maid pulled it out of the trash and megan gave it back to him.
stan and peggy chatting on the phone while working was very endearing. and i'm glad that peggy is very much in the series despite no longer being at SDCP.
yo this shit is amazing.
"What is it like to have someone's life in your hands?"
I ask the heart doctor. I don't know the answer to that question,
but I DO know the answer to the question, "What is it like
to have my dick
in your wife's hands"
This was my favorite scene. They really captured that feeling of talking aimlessly to a friend really late at night. Loved it when Stan made sure to tell Peggy he wasn't hanging up before going to get coffee.
On a more general note, it feels so good to have the show back.
Was the comedian on TV a real-life thing? If so, who was it?
Found this, Bucky.

Love this show. Love Don having a pukey breakdown.
January Jones is the worst fucking actress in the universe. When she's expected to be anything other than wooden and prissy, the scenes fall completely flat.
As always, here's a good companion tumblr site to look into after every episode of Mad Men to give the references some context. Including the vietnam ear necklace incident (though it doesn't clarify anything about a comedian making light of it).

I loved the scene with Peggy talking to the priest even more. The way they intimated what the other side of the conversation was without making it sound cheesy was great. Plus the whole thing was hilarious.
My favorite scene would probably have to be Don pitching his hotel ad though. Capping it off with Stan admitting he got the suicide reference and loved it was fantastic.
The comedian thing never actually happened, according to Weiner. The ear thing happened and there were a few instances at the time of Tonight Show comedians making bad war jokes but that specific one is fake.
Weiner had sent a list to critics of five things he did not want them to spoil in advance of the airing.
1. The status of Megan and Don's relationship
2. New characters
3. The year the season begins
4. New relationships
5. Whether the agency has an additional floor
That last one is either a pretty big red herring or a bizarre hint at what comes later.
The tie on the art even looked like a noose.
The tagline, "The jumping-off point" might have made some suicide sense if there were a cliff in the ad that the traveler was leaping off. I never think of Suicide By Walking Into Ocean. It seems to me that clients were seeing controversy where none exists.
