if she picked up the cups, she might not put them down in the same order, which would ruin the taste test. also, yes, she sucked.

i feel like the conversation joan and peggy had about megan is the conversation the whole audience has about her. she's just a hot secretary turned actress that has don by the balls vs. no, wait, she's actually good at stuff and smart and nice/there's something more to her than that.

    Re: Mad Men

No, Peggy was absolutely right, Don was a mega-dick for not running through it with her beforehand, his passive aggressive "I knew my lines" bullshit just makes it worse. Key to that bit was the chemistry and that needed to be rehearsed to make Peggy feel comfortable with it. He threw her out in the wind after she had heard it done once by a real married couple with real, natural romantic chemistry. To expect her to be able to go in their cold and perfectly recreate it is ludicrous. He was setting her up to fail.

In the previous episode, Don fell in love with the idea of having a total partner in work and life in Megan, rescuing him from his work doldrums that Cooper recently slapped him on the wrist about. Just like that, it's all slipped away, and even the elevator floor has fallen out beneath him. He's trying to keep it together, but I think inside he's just one slip away from being "The Suitcase" sobbing Don. So instead he rages at and blames his work-wife, Peggy, who is as almost as disappointed about Megan's departure as he is.

This is going to be a bumpy second half of the season...

    Re: Mad Men

I noted that when Don was asking Megan why she wanted to leave he seemed to think they shared a love to the ad game. But Megan's just a good actress and has successfully pretended to love (or at least be really into) her job. While Peggy obviously can't act, she is at least, if not more passionate about advertising as Don is (was?). That's why seeing the "scene" played out with each woman was so beautiful. Don seems to think that he has to have everything with one woman. She has to fulfill him emotionally, sexually and intellectually. And he's had some of each from all the women he's dated but leaves when they miss the mark on another front. It will be interesting to see if Don can find what he's looking for by receiving fulfillment in multiple places, not from one woman.

See, I don't think that Meg was very good at acting like she loved the job at SCDP.

It's ironic, because it was her acting (improvising) that made Don think she was amazing at advertising, and also what made Megan realize she missed acting and ultimately wanted to leave advertising. I know this was probably really obvious but I just got it.

That cologne company is at least as out of touch as Don if they want a "Hard Day's Night" sound when the Beatles are putting out Revolver. Although if Revolver's out, that means the Monkees are already on the air, so there's some justification for it. They should probably just go straight after the Monkees if that's the feel they want.

I sorta think Don called again just to ask "what on Earth was that accent you were using?"

I agree he's becoming pretty dull, compared to Megan's openness to experience (and Ginsberg's semi-autistic parsing of the world around him). That last shot, Don literally turns his back on The Beatles. He's been looking older this season too. Stuffy old bore in a square gray suit in a third rate agency.

Peter is a hateful little git but I'm bowled over by the guy who plays him. He's a great actor, hits every beat in a way that's magical to me. I feel so sorry for him, as a person, having to play such an awful person. Like January Jones…*you wonder in real life if they're even a little bit as awful…

Vincent Kartheiser is an angel straight from heaven. He's pretty much a crunchy, scruffy eco-dude. And he has fun playing terrible Pete. And I love him.

Fuck you Mad Men for being so good. I love what they are doing with Sterling. "This is what I wanted. Sit back and watch the money roll in." He's become a zen capitalist. Pete's initial reaction to the skis was great.

I think the character's future I think about the most is Peggy. She seems to have the widest range of endings. I really have no idea what is going to happen to her. She's basically on the front line of a huge shift in gender politics but almost by accident.

    I love this show.

I love that Pete's, well Vincent's really, beard is feebly trying to compete with Jon Hamm's full lushes man beard. Poor Pete never wins.

Also, Vincent came to a show I did once. He seemed mildly drunk but very cool. If that is worth anything.

"Facilities? Yes, there is a metaphor happening in our elevator"

Great episode overall. This show keeps getting better.
Alexis Biedel, sticking around? There was a shot of Pete in the Next Week on Mad Men where it seemed like he might be talking about her. I figure they wouldn't have gotten an actress who is already somewhat well-known if it was a single episode arc.

It's 'Bledel', dammit. She didn't travel around with those pants so you could misspell her name!

My wife said she's not aging well, but I'd still take a run at Rory.
