And how about Don piping in with "Whitman?" Eh? Eh? That seems like maybe the more important thing, right?

Yeah, a good moment. Everything in this show seems so deliberate. I find myself straining my eyes and brain every moment trying to figure out all the subtext. (Not that that scene was a particularly hard example of that.)

I know it's only been several episodes, but this season has been really great, right? I'll admit I struggled getting into the show the first two seasons, but I pushed through because it was the only show that I didn't actively watch/appreciate whenever critics would make their top 5 shows lists. I stuck with it and I have loved seasons 3-5 so much. Glad I did. Maybe I just needed to get smarter/wiser by watching it. I'll have to go back and watch season 1-2 again at some point now that I'm a better person.

When Joan started "Everyone in the office has wanted to do that ..." I didn't think she was going to end it with "to Pete Campbell."

    Smooches.

This was the episode this season to draw me back in completely. I think my favorite line was Don's drink order - "big and brown". Fanfreakingtastic.

I loved the old-timey boxing square off (in addition to everything else mentioned about this episode). It reminded me of the SNL sketch when Conan hosted: http://snltranscripts.jt.org/00/00nsports.phtml. Also, here are two Mad Men writers on how the show is written: http://www.slate.com/articles/arts/t...s_whitman.html

That was a very stressful hour of television. I can hardly process all the subtext. I did love the mirrored shots of the two couples side by side on the floor.

    Re: Mad Men

This episode was great. I feel like an idiot for not catching on to the structural gimmick until far later than I should have. I'm kind of stupid sometimes!

I really loved that cut of Don, Megan and the kids in the car right to Don alone driving home... that was such a clean and elegantly effective way of getting his thoughts across.

The whole thing, structurally, was just incedible. I need to watch it again to unpack it all.

So, Directv's description of this episode was "Peggy is upset by a difficult pitch". Pretty sure the person who wrote this saw the first 15 minutes then banged that out.

    Re: Mad Men

Megan's doing the "You were mean and now I get to run away and make you chase me!" thing. I know because I used to do that. It was attention and punishment. "I don't wanna talk to YOU! NYAH!" Not saying that Don wasn't a huge cheesehead in this episode, but I wonder how long he was gone before she left the HoJo's.

And Meg shoveling the sherbet in her mouth reminded me of Steve and Brian on TSSP when Steve wanted Brian to try Tab and Brian went overboard with it. Oh and wasn't Jon Hamm in that episode too?? Whoooooooooooooa dude.
