Lost Boys: The Tribe (the straight to DVD sequel) *Spoiler Alert*/Warning

This came out on Tuesday and I've already seen it. It's what you think it would be: a crappy straight to DVD vampire film. This time, they're Vampire surfers! Nothing to do with the first one, except for the return of Edgar Frog, played by Feldman, who had a lot of B Movie potential in this, but didn't get enough screen time. Sam Raimi could've made this, with the same script, and it could've been great...Feldman's performance is that snarky, over the top B style that I do love, but the rest of the cast played it straight. In short, it's no Zombie Strippers. My favorite vampire film is Near Dark, if you want to know where my tastes lie.

    Question:

Although Jamison Newlander and Corey Haim were in the credits, I don't remember them in the "film."

I watched this on the teeny screen of my Ipod, so maybe I didn't recognize one of them. Or did they get cut out?

Also, who played the police officer? I thought it was Bruce Campbell, but he's not listed there.

Help me, my fellow movie nerds.

I haven't seen it, but I read on Aint It Cool that after the credits, there is a scene with Corey Haim reprising his character. I think he's a vampire now and the scene supposedly shows him attacking Feldman, presumably to set up another installment of the film, one with more Coreys and less viewers.

Speaking of Raimi, his new one is supposed to be old-school crazy pants, which excites my inner 12-year old a great deal.

I saw the original for the first time last week and was kind of disappointed to realize that the Simpsons basically ruined the ending for me.

Thanks, it's there. Still didn't see the other Frog brother, though.

I can't recommend Near Dark enough. If you haven't seen it, get it. It predated The Lost Boys, IIRC, and it brought in the oncoming wave of "dirty" vampires.

There was also this shortlived series on CBS called Forever Night about a vampire who becomes a cop to reconcile his karma. yep. It's told in that Half Now/Half Flashback technique from Kung Fu, also done in Highlander. On the quality scale, I liked it a little better than Renegade. If you want to obsess on bad TV, that'll keep you busy for the weekend.

I got to read two drastically different versions of the script for the remake of Near Dark. One of them was really good. I hope they go with the good one.

Do not rent this movie. I say that not as a person who is above renting and enjoying a sweet as fuck straight to dvd action/horror flick. I own the story of Ricky-oh and knew about Meet The Feebles before you did, you fucker. Anyway, that said, don't rent this movie. It's so bad that there is no need to say anything more about it. It's bad.

Oh yeah, Haim is in it after the credits begin to roll. It was lumped on at the end and it lasts for about ten seconds.

"You're eating maggots, Michael" was very important to me when I was ten. Thanks for nuthin, Lost Boys 2, you fuck.
