    Legalize It, Partially

    Good heavens.

"The U.S. should stop arresting responsible marijuana users, Rep. Barney Frank said Wednesday, announcing a proposal to end federal penalties for Americans carrying fewer than 100 grams, almost a quarter-pound, of the substance."

Here's the full article. Go Barney go!

    Barney Dank.

I hope this gets passed. Half the reason people get paranoid while high is weed's illegality.

They should at least stop arresting and fining so many non-white pot users.

There's no greater image of the racism behind drug related arrests in NYC than the one you get in Downtown Brooklyn.

On the one hand, you have the courts and central booking on one side of Court Street where more people are arrested out of mainly black communities for simply smoking weed than you can imagine.

Then right across the Court Street (not even 2 minutes away) are private schools like Packer Prep where the white students sit outside on Brooklyn Heights stoops smoking the same pot and not being bugged by cops at all.

Coincidence? Or should I say - co-WEED-incidence?? No really, should I say that?

no, but if ivan didn't say "barney dank," "coinky dank," might have worked. of course, you would have had to say "coinky dink" too.

Here, have a big fat New Yorker article on the grey-area legality that's going on in California.

This well never pass the house and if it does it will never pass the senate. If by some miracle it passes both Bush will just veto it and there's no way they will have enough votes to overturn the veto.

    Its too bad.

    So what you're saying is...

    FRANKLY, Barney's bill doesn't have a chance.

Alas, his dreams will go up in a puff of smoke.

I live in his district and believe me, he's going to flail around a bit and nothing else will come of it - except maybe a fox news blurb "gay loony rep. wants your kids to smoke drugs!"

Frank was on Real Time a while back talking about this. And knowing Bill Maher, he'll be on again to talk about it some more.

(Interesting side-note: Barney Frank claims to have never smoked pot and has no interest in doing so. He just thinks the law is bad and the time is right to change it.)

It's curious that he thinks this is the right time rather than, say, 174 days from now.

No, now is great because it will force Obama to denounce the plan, ensuring that it will never become a law. *sigh*
