The DARE program was ran by your peers at your middle school? That explains everything. If I grew up seeing 8 year olds wearing mini-cop outfits with baby bullet proof vests and tiny mustaches walking K-9 puppies from class to class everything else for the rest of my life would seem underwhelming by comparison.

It was rough, but I managed to overcome it and grow up to appropriately appreciate television programming.

Ugh, two-hour season premiere tonight. I can already feel myself wanting to watch it out of morbid curiousity. Fortunately I don't have cable and I doubt I'll actually bring myself to pay for it on Amazon or iTunes.

I plan on reading recaps just to mainline the idiot plot twists. Can't wait for the tribe of menacing-but-misunderstood gypsies to show up!

As angry as I am at the show, the stupid commercials kind of made me excited. Damn my eyes.

You know, these characters might be mopey, one-dimensional idiots, but at least you know their carbon footprints are small since they never use any electricity.

    Re: The Killing

I swore I'd never return to this show after the abysmal second half of the last season but I ended up watching all two hours of this premiere because I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. Brutal. Veena Sud and the other writers on this show paid no attention to the millions of criticisms everyone had and everything we hated is back and amplified: we're still following the same side characters which have almost no bearing on the plot, we're still watching them attempt to solve the exact same case full of nothing but red herrings and ludicrous twists and now we also have to sit through this excruciating Government conspiracy which conveniently came out of nowhere, makes little sense and makes Rubicon look as exciting as a Michael Bay movie in comparison.

The cover for the first season on this show on DVD has the "Who Killed Rosie Larsen?" tagline scrawled all over it. After seeing the first two episodes of this new season, it's clear that the creators of the show don't even give a shit anymore. Rosie Larsen is an enigma of a character who doesn't even figure into the mystery at this point, now it's just a continually nonsensical series of revelations building up to a solution that is impossible to be satisfying.

Mirielle Enos and Joel Kinnaman are so good on this too, what a shame.

    Re: The Killing

Also, I just saw this in an interview about the new season:

Do you know who killed Rosie Larsen?

ENOS: No. We don’t yet. We’re only on Episode 11, of shooting.

This has way more meaningless helicopter shots. If you're a sucker for meaningless helicopter shots, this ish is your Wire.

I have started a new game with my father (who I watch this & the Walking Dead religiously with) where at the end of every scene, I pick the extra furthest in the background of the shot and tell my father "THAT guy's the killer."

My favorite scene in the show so far is when Linden is holding a mindmap that says:

    HOLDER
    |
    \/
    GIL S.
    |
    \/
    ?
All I could think was "FINKLE & EINHORN! FINKLE & EINHORN!"

EDIT: the "IV" above is supposed to be an arrow pointing down

    Re: The Killing

I must say, being from Tacoma, it's usually the case that I'll see Tacoma in a movie, except it's supposed to be Seattle. It was weird seeing The Killing depict Tacoma (even though it's clearly somewhere in Canada) as an ooooold rickety bridge out in the woods somewhere, where they do CRAB FISHING and have quaint B&B's for political candidates to stay in. It's like they threw a dart at the general Seattle area of a map and went, "Boom! That's probably wet and mossy!"

Anyway, this show can suck my dick. It is the worst. I'll watch it until it kills me.

Edit: Also, those kids are WAY older than they were last season. Ugh.

    Re: The Killing

The killer is Stan's soundproof garage. When the kid opened the door and was shocked by all those journalists outside, it was like they couldn't hear the 15+ journalists walking around with their bulky equipment, 10 feet away.

And for people who don't think this show is full of red herrings:

Councilman Richmond is LITERALLY shot and paralyzed for not saying that he went to Tacoma to celebrate his dead wife's anniversary. Apparently going to jail for the rest of his life was more important than the political suicide it would have been to tell people he was A) not the murderer B) trying to suicide himself C) enjoyed going to the bone zone.

    To quote Frisky Dingo: "Baffling."
"That dancer and I became really close friends. And back then he wasn't known as K-Fed or Federline. Back then his name was Chad Farthouse." -Zach Galifianakis

    Re: The Killing

I'll one up you, mezmorized. In the very first sequence of the pilot, they SHOW the killer. All they had to do was pan up one foot and we'd see their face and the teacher would still be alive, the dim witted friend wouldn't have shot himself and the Councilman would still be walking. Dumbest show ever.

    Re: The Killing

The worst thing about this Rubicon-style conspiracy aspect that's been introduced, is that it no longer matters that we answer the question of "Who Killed Rosie Larsen?". The story will be resolved by finding out who is behind the conspiracy, rendering all of this hand-wringing ominousness about Rosie to nothing. This show is manipulative bullshit. Holder and my weak will power are the only things keeping me attached to this show.

Do you mean Barack Hussein Obama? He's the only one with the means and the motive to get the job done. Get Holder on the phone.
