    The Karate Kid (2010)

I realize saying what I'm about to say is akin to jumping on the ground and then yelling "Dog Pile!" But I'm gonna do it anyway.

The new "Karate Kid" movie doesn't look half bad.

I am a big fan of the original, and when I heard they were remaking it, I was appalled. Then I heard it would star Will Smith's son, and I lost interest even more. Then the other day I noticed the trailer was up when browsing trailers. I thought to myself, "Oh God, let's see how awful this is gonna be."

Then, I actually liked what I saw. It looks somewhat faithful to the original without being a carbon copy. The kid wasn't annoying. I got the feeling it was honoring the original more than saying, "We can do this better."

Anyway, I'm now somewhat interested and will probably want to see this.

I read somewhere that this tested higher than any movie in the studio's testing history. I'm not kidding.

If you think this is going to be good then you are out of your fucking mind. I'd rather watch Ralph Macchio trim Bonsai trees for three hours than watch five minutes of this bullshit.

    Re: The Karate Kid (2010)

When did wanting to watch new movies become an old concept? I used to love watching new movies. Well, I still do, but now good ones are few and far between. It wasn't this bad when I was a kid. Maybe when I grew up, "Hollywood" grew younger. It's like little kids making all the decisions and just wanting to remake all the popular movies in the world, including ones that should never be touched.

One thing I think is kinda shitty is now when you'll say, "Have you seen The Karate Kid?", most younger people will think you're talking about the new one and not even know about the old one or if you do know you'll have to say, "Which one?". The same goes for other movies that have been pooped on. Then again, I'm sure some older people think the same thing about some not so new remakes of their favorites.

But whatever, it's gonna happen either way. The thing about it is, that it was the 80s. Some stuff was so bad it was good. I don't think the new one has any chance of that happening.

The reason the first movie was so popular was because it passed Jeff Garlin's test for brilliance. Unintentional humor cannot be recreated.

Man, I gotta say, that trailer looks good. Also, Taraji Henson is in it.

The only way this movie could be funny is if the lead character actually played himself and he had all kinds of body guards around him that Will Smith kept at bay in an attempt to Philly-up his rich spoiled kid by teaching him how to street fight. Instead of Jackie Chan as Miagi it would be DJ Jazzy Jeff (who they find living in an old refrigerator box) and every street fight would break into cheesy musical rap numbers that includes a poignant remake of Parents just Don't Understand.

This movie won't be good because you will not be eight years old when you see it.

It doesn't look bad at all. Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan will most likely have some "accidental" comedic moments as well. Probably not as many as the original.

Speaking of which: It may not even be called "the Karate Kid" (at least not in China where they'd reconize the difference)

The previous highest-testing film in studio history? "Hitch"! Also not kidding.
