    Homeland

Why isn't anyone talking about all the new shows? I liked this one pretty well - I'm really interested in the process of how someone gets turned like that.

Heh, I've been waiting for someone to make the thread. I really, really liked the premiere. Cool premise, tight script and all around quality acting. Especially Claire Danes, she's phenomenal here.

Personally, I don't take for granted that Brody has been turned. I realize that's the idea the show is centered around, but none of the flashbacks we've seen so far prove that he came back home with the intention of blowing up something. The guy is obviously hiding his fair share of secrets, but I hope that there is more to it. That the expectation of him being a terrorist will be challenged throughout the rest of the season.

    In any case, I'm hooked.

I'm a sucker for shows that deal with the politics of the intelligence community. But so many shows handle them poorly. (I'm looking at you, spy shows on USA. Yes, they have more than one.) It seems like this one is going to be really well done. The first episode had some really tense moments. Loved it.

I guess I didn't even consider that he wasn't a terrorist. Hopefully they mess with us but not in a Killing sort of way.

    Re: Homeland

Yeah Claire Danes really shone here, and there were some nice casting choices (Patinkin, Marciano). Stuck right in the middle was a surprisingly off line-read which I was really surprised got through the productions process, though. ("I only get to see my kids twice a year").

    Promising overall.

I have liked it so far, but they'll take any excuse to have Claire in her undies, and that has been making me laugh.

    Re: Homeland

Ever since I read about Louis & HBO asking him to have nudity in his show it makes me laugh when I see the nude scenes because I know they are totally worthless to the plot of these shows because they are just encouraged by the networks. The scenes with the escort service interviews seemed written specifically out of a request for more nudity in a show about terrorism.

    Re: Homeland

    Spoilers ahead:

So the guy has become a muslim. Proof that he fraternized with the enemy in some way, but still no clear sign of him being a terrorist.

Something tells that he hasn't been "turned" during his time as a P.O.W., but that seeds were planted into his mind. Of course if he spends the entire series watching basketball in his PJs, that won't make for riveting television. But I have a feeling that whatever triggers his decision to blow **** up and/or assassinate people has yet to happen. And that ironically, Claire Danes' character might be responsible.

I love this series. I don't remember being as addicted to a show on a week-to-week basis since the days of Lost (granted I'm not nearly as obsessed as I was with that show).

They're spending a lot of time outside of the home - I can't wait until this all converges to see how he's staying in contact with those people

Astro, I think it's obvious that he has been turned... however, if the man can turn, he can turn again. This is a show about how strange and weak our minds are, eh?

    Re: Homeland

They flipped it on us! I can't imagine how this show will remain as interesting now, though... I'm hoping they play with how all of that torture couldn't flip him... but maybe the way we treat him at home ends up doing the trick. If this just plays out normally from here out, then I dunno... I dunno. And is this just a one season show? Where do you go from here for a season two? Whatever the case, I look forward to this show more than Dexter these days.

What if he is still flipped? Could the funeral scene be an indication of that?

    Re: Homeland

I hope he is... I HOPE ALL OF THEM ARE FLIPPED! Seriously, though, he has to be flipped... maybe he just doesn't know it, like some sirhan sirhan mk-ultra type thing. I mean, why build up the plot point of him eventually running for office if he is just going to be a John McCain, right? Also, the line Daines gave about him not killing her if he is playing the long game might be important. How does this show continue on after this season if he ISN'T flipped. Then again, they might just toy with us for five seasons and then go, "He was never flipped, but you thought he was and now you know how sad it was to be George Bush!!!!!"

I know it probably would've led to some of the same hokeyness that Dexter gets into but I was kind of hoping for Patinkin to be flipped too.

LADIES AND GENTLEMAN.... WE HAVE A RE-FLIP. This is probably my favorite show right now.

Remember when he met the VP and he said to his wife something along the lines of, "Sheesh, I don't even know the guy's name."

I love the cast on this show... I think Patinkin's delivery is one of the most natural and non-acting'ish deliveries in the world of acting in general. And don't get me started on that redheaded maniac... I've been a fan of his since Dreamcatcher, the most entertaining mainstream bad movie to be made in recent history.

I love it when Patinkin fumes. He does nothing, but you can still almost see the smoke coming out of his ears.

And Claire Danes...holy shit, I've never seen her be anything but passable before, but she's really great here. Has she always had that slight speech impediment or is that something she's developed for this character?
