    The History of ASpecialThing.com

    Concerning the history of the site, I was hoping that the original members could talk a little about how it all got started.

    I was just watching some Tenacious D; specifically the "Lee" episode and I just got to thinking that maybe Lee was a sorta one of you people. Ah?

    Isos, Jouster and I were playing ultimate frisbee one day at the park, making constant D references and giggling like children. Isos, as was his habit/affectation at the time, took a break to smoke a pipe. He had a queer look of complete concentration, almost a grimace. When he came back onto the field he said "Guys I have a great idea."

    The rest is hisssssssssssssssssssssssssstoooooory.

    I can't speak for Jimmy, but based on what he has said: it is an official fan club. And he sometimes posts under that name. So whatever you do, DON'T MENTION THAT ONE THING THAT DRIVES PARDO CRAZY!!!!

    Re: The History of ASpecialThing.com

    I got really into two things in the spring of 2001: Tenacious D and "All Your Base" photoshops. Here's how the two connect: I started posting on an ezboard for All Your Base pics, which required me to create an account (I had never used a message board before). I realized you could make your own ezboard pretty easily, and I realized that Tenacious D info was too hard to come by on the Internet, especially live dates (their "official" Sony Music site launched around that time, but the forum was terrible). So I started a Tenacious D ezboard, and named it after a lyric in the song "Special Things," since the ideal was for the site to become another "special thing" to add to their list (incidentally, the original board had a forum called "Tin Cup" that was just for people to play Electrotank mini-golf and post high scores). I posted a message on the official D board inviting people to come join aspecialthing, and it grew slowly but surely from there (for awhile it was just me and maybe a dozen other people, but by the time the D album came out in September 2001 and they started doing publicity and touring to support it, more people found the site and joined).

    That's chapter 1.

    I'm glad you finally responded to this.

    This remains my first and only board I've ever posted and/or read on a regular basis. I started reading in the fugitive alien days, back in... '02? There just wasn't much about Mr. Show on the internet I could find and was happy to get some sort of news on their projects and stuff (not to mention like minded fans). I only subscribed a couple years ago though, emerging from the lurker shadows.

    You guys obviously weren't around during the sidehatch.com days.
    My momma had twin babies on one sweet summer day;
    She beat one in the head, and I'm the one that got away.
