I like and hate your post.
You are probably right, Nathan. I am stuck in the past w/r/t rap. I still like melody in songs even those with a hard, staccato flow. That is why I like Killer Mike's spots on the Outkast records.
I'm stuck in the past just as much as anyone who hit their prime in the 90s but that Killer Mike album is one of the hardest albums I've ever heard. The beats fit his flow perfectly. As "new school" as it sounds, it has that bboy ruggedness of the old school. EL-P is the king of capturing the bboy aesthetic while creating a completely new sound.
