    The Hip-Hip Hoppin' Thread!

Is this a pointless thread? I don't know - I just thought we should have a place to post awesome stuff like this:

    http://www.hiphopsite.com/2010/06/02...d-by-daughter/

“He is not a good father. He’s an asshole. Luke used to beat my mom,” she continued. “Abuse? Yes.That was him.He even like shot her in the leg I think. I don’t know. But still, he used to beat her down ’til she couldn’t even move or walk.At the age of three, he kicked me and my mother out the house. What kind of father is that? When my sister turns 18, he kicked her out, because he said she needed to fend for herself,” Lacresha added. “We have like five brothers and sisters, and he only claims one.My little brother Luther is going through so much right now, and he really needs his father. He’s not there,” she said.“He texts my mom and tells her to send Luther to a homeless shelter. Your son needs you, you little fucker. What the hell?”
    Someone's looking for some publicity!

Anyways, post any newsworthy newsies and any music that you are currently enjoying here - and also, we can discuss whether or not Kanye is good for hip hop (remember that Jesse?).

    Re: The Hip-Hip Hoppin' Thread!

Oh, here's a great discussion piece:

    http://www.hiphopsite.com/2010/06/02...r-of-all-time/

According to Vibe magazine, Dr. Dre is officially the Greatest Producer of All-Time. Dre won the title in a bracket-style,fan voting tournament on Vibe.Com.He took 62% of the votes and outlasted DJ Premier in the final round.
As much as I want to disagree with this, it's hard to ignore the amount of influence he's had on hip hop, specifically with gangsta rap. He's like the Beatles of gangsta rap as far as I'm concerned. He's certainly not the greatest producer of all time but he's up there.

    What do YOU think, AST?

And here's one more RAP FANS:

    http://www.hiphopsite.com/2010/06/01...e-ep%E2%80%9D/

From the files of “stop playin”, our favorite metal faced emcee has apparently teamed up with comedian Sacha Baron Cohen. As the story goes:Baron Cohen was on the west coast in 2006,promoting Borat, and met Doom randomly. From there, the pair began a working relationship and dubbed themselves “MF Borat.”
A match made in comedy rap heaven? YOU tell ME!

Can we talk about Kanye's new single that got leaked that dissed SNL?

Also, can we talk about how Kanye is constantly trying to get into my pants (song talking about SNL, showing up at the Met Opera, blogging about John Waters).

Also, can we discuss De La Soul? I've only recently started listening to them (and Erik B and Rakim, and Kid 'n Play, and Bone Thugs and Harmony, and Bell Biv Devoe) and I cannot fill my brain with it enough. It's noon and I've already listened to Peas Porridge Hot upwards of 20 times.

    Re: The Hip-Hip Hoppin' Thread!

Well then, with permission from Nathan:

De La Soul is SO great!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ugggggggggggh, just so freaking great. Like, amazing AMAZING beats. 3 Feet High and Rising gets the credit for having the best samples, but De La Soul is dead uses less samples and uses them smarter. Also, they can do the "rap skit" in a way that doesn't make me want to vomit. Bitties in the BK Lounge is awesome and hilarious and tells a story that isn't about violence or how hard it is to live in the streets or anything else like that.

Nothing about rap about violence or how hard it is to live in the streets. Kanye West is one of my favorite humans, despite the fact that he's pretty terrible about being one. He's an incredible producer, and great with puns and word play (1. How many ladies in the house? How many ladies in the house without a spouse? Somethin' in your blouse got me feelin' so aroused! 2. Heard they'd do anything for a Klondike, well I'd do anything for a blonde dyke, and she'd do anything for the limelight, and we'll do anything when the time's right), but all his lyrics are self-fulfilling prophecies. Every song in Graduation basically comes down to "Yall might hate me but I'm going to keep doing what I love and I know you all secretly love me because I'm so good at what I do and no matter what you say about me I know that I'm inspiring people". Nothing wrong with that, but there is nothing in there about being mistaken for Tracey Chapman at a Burger King.

I love listening to "On My Block" by Scarface because he talks about how hard it is to live in the Houston Suburbs......and I agree. I mean, it's like Target closes at 10 and Starbucks runs out of their brownies by 7 pm and none of our arcades have Galaga :/

THIS ISN'T THE R&B THREAD, although I wouldn't be completely bummed if this turned into a New Jack thread, so carry on.

Bone Thugs N Harmony is ill. Especially the East 1999 Eternal album and the one before it. Back when Bone came out I was a sucker for fast rhymes.

MF Doom's "Operation Doomsday" is awesome, and "The Mouse and the Mask" his Adult Swim album produced by Dangermouse is better than Gnarls Barkley (in my opinion).
"we found ourselves under a spotlight and decided what was real and what was not. let's break up all the pieces, build again from scratch." Why? (from Greenthink)
