    Computor/Tech stuff

Hey, sometimes there's non-apple related stuff going on. Also, I have questions.

I got an HP laptop for Christmas and I immediately upgraded the ram with some that I had laying around. The original memory all have stickers that say something to the effect of "replace with HP only." But that's BS right? What does it matter what kind of RAM is in there as long as it fits and the OS can recognize it? Windows is definitely saying I now have 3 gb instead of 2.

(Computer is deliberately spelled incorrectly in the title).

Yeah, if there was a legitimate problem you probably wouldn't have been able to boot to the OS. You could check your memory settings in the BIOS to be ultra-safe, but if the new memory is being recognized in Windows I probably wouldn’t worry about it.

I suspect it's saying use HP only because they're afraid that people will try to fit in a different (physical) size or something.

I bought a new laptop. I keep getting annoying pop ups from the Mcafee software that came with it. I get a free 30 day trial but should I just get rid of it all together? I am not going to be paying for it after that time anyway.

Hey, Firefox people: I just got a new computer and am trying to find an add-on I used to have that moved all my downloads from the download window into a little tool bar/progress bar on the bottom of the browser window. Anybody know what it's called?

Do a complete uninstall of Mcafee. Make sure it's all gone (all autostart parts, update services, etc) - use a software like CCleaner if needed.

Then install this: AVG AntiVirus Free Edition, which is all you need - a small, quiet, free anti-virus program that gets the job done.

What's the deal with an entire generation of Zunes being bricked (bricking out?) last week? I feel like the event isn't getting the mass derision it deserves.

In case you decide to stay with mcafee, some of ISPs such as comcast will give you a free copy it.

It got attention here. It would have received more attention if Microsoft sold more than a few dozen Zunes.

    Palm Pre

The Palm Pre seems to be getting some good first reactions. I hope that it is as good as it sounds. My contract is up in October and this could be my next phone. I have the Palm Centro and it has been a pretty good phone for the price.

I don't get this wireless charger for the pre. It's not like it will be able to be charged remotely right? You still have to put the phone on that dock thing?

But it looks cool!!! I think the other thing is that if more products start using it you can just have a charging strip you throw everything on. You don't have to have ten different power adapters.

Yeah I was thinking about that. Like a universal pad. Hopefully it would go that way instead of everything having its own "wireless" charger.

I originally thought that they'd developed a way to transmit energy wirelessly, and now I can't help but be disappointed.

Intel (I think it was Intel) did that. Somewhere there is a video of them powering a lamp onstage without wires. It's like some sort of witchcraft.
