WHAAAAAAAT. Fine I will give Deadpool another chance. Did anyone besides me enjoy David Lapham & Kyle Baker's Deadpool MAX way more than the "canon" Deadpool comics? Those sales numbers were depressing for a comic that good.

Don't bother. Save time and just watch that awesome Wolverine movie.

I found 19 Futurama comics at goodwill today, they may not be that great, but now I must have them all. (if anyone wants to sell some, please send me a message!)

I've started collecting these and The Simpsons comics as well. It's nice when nothing is on to TV then pick one of these up.

anyone reading wonder woman? i think it's pretty cool for a greek mythology fan, maybe confusing without a primer. it's steeped in references and preexisting dynamics. the first arc of the new series just finished and while the ending is a little anticlimactic in a "leave them wanting more" sense, i thought there were tons of great moments throughout. cliff chiang art is spectacular but no duh.

also i just read wild children by ales kot and i thought it was absolutely great, and--no lie--has helped me at least once with a panic attack.

How so? I know him and can send along your story (if you want)

Yeesh, that Punisher Max is troubling. What's wrong with Garth Ennis, eh? Got all of his "fun" out of his system with Preacher? The Boys is sick and awful but at least it's got a bit of a sense of humor, however twisted, and it's fantasy so you're not forced to contend with the idea of rapist Superman IRL. But this, the "Barracuda" arc, with the sociopath trophy wife and the evil CEO, and "Slavers"... nothing was too bizarre not to be believed. "Widowmaker" and "Man of Stone" were a lot more entertaining and enjoyable, the former felt a little bit like a season of the Sopranos that the Punisher kind of exploded into.

Also, Uncanny X-Men #205, "Wounded Wolf" drawn by Barry Windsor Smith (which probably led directly to his Weapon X series) is a really great palate-cleansing departure coming on the heels of what felt like an interminable back-to-back Secret Wars I & II crossover.

    Re: Comic Books!

I just finished reading Ultimate Spider-Man up to Peter's death. Man that was a really great series, and I actually got a little choked up reading the last few pages. I then went and picked up our first toy for our upcoming baby. Still don't know the gender but I think even a girl can enjoy this...

I obviously have nothing interesting to add to this conversation.

Robin was introduced in Detective Comics #38.

Batman: Strange Apparitions is great, my personal favorite run of Batman (that's not Year One). Tales of the Demon is a great collection of the O'Neil/Adams stuff. Matt Wagner's stories Batman and the Mad Monk and Batman and the Monster Men are great versions of Golden Age stories. If you can find the old Greatest Batman Stories Ever Told from 1987 you've got great stuff in there. Batman Year 100 by Paul Pope is a great sci-fi Batman story.

Grant Morrison's Batman kicks in with Batman R.I.P. It gets even better but you need to have a few different books. Her's the reading order: http://www.amazon.com/Grant-Morrison.../R5KPZVDQOS8L1 The culmination of the Return of Bruce Wayne and Batman & Robin is some of my favorite Batman stuff ever

We have Bone at the high school where I work and I recommend it to the kids all the time... But I've never read it. Am I a terrible person? Is it really that good?

It's kind of like a proto-Kingdom Hearts. A bunch of Disneyfied characters end up in the middle of a bunch of realistic fantasy drama. Really engrossing.

Nowadays I can't think of Bone without thinking of one of its less-successful contemporaries: Castle Waiting. It's the ultimate comfort-food comic.

And so long as I'm posting: what's up with Danger Club? Three issues and then a summer-long hiatus?
    I'm in.

Punisher MAX is actually kind of intended to be disturbing. It's still a little ridiculous, I don't think Ennis can help that, but part of the reason why it's the first Punisher series to work in 30+ years is because they presented the Punisher in a realistic context. No superhero hail-marys, no atomic laser guns, no ghost voodoo punisher (that was a real thing in the late 90s), just a crazy old vet who kills La Cosa Nostra.
    I'm in.

I love Bone! I have that huge paperback book that collects the entire series in one enormous paperweight. It's just a bunch of fun. Very lighthearted and silly in all the best ways.

Finished it last night, it was pretty great. It's nuanced, epic, sweet and scary, and it's some of the best art I've ever seen in a comic.

You're right, I blew it. I guess what I should say is that I read Walking Dead and it's fine and all but Invincible is the gopher's balls.

I happened to stumble across the scripts for Chew (showtime) and Powers (fx). Haven't gotten around to powers yet but chew shows great potential.

Awesome! I'm really worried about what might happen to Chew in the transition.

    Re: Comic Books!

Such a big part of the appeal of Chew, for me, is the drawing style. I'm not too squeamish but the chomping on corpse fingers and whatnot is just so fucking vile, and it's hard to buy as a premise because it's so gross.

Oh, and I've been going through Marvel "events" of the past decade or so. Civil War, that was depressing. House of M, that was pretty interesting in some ways, some of the titles that it affected were pretty boring, in general it was a lot like the last season of Lost. Planet Hulk was maybe stretched a little too long, could have been a few issues shorter, but was otherwise very good- and I'm definitely looking forward to reading WWH because I'm totally on his side.
