Has anyone checked out the Before Watchmen series? I've heard mixed things about it and I'm real hesitant on reading it. Also, how many are reading Animal Man? Animal Man is easily my favorite of the New 52. The art is beautiful.
I haven't checked out Before Watchmen because I don't really have funds for a 150 dollars comics event (35 issues in total). I was planning on maybe checking out the collected editions (a reasonably priced omnibus containing everything would be awesome), but I haven't heard much praise for any of the books yet.
Animal Man is pretty damn good. And for a comic about a marginal superhero, the sales and popularity of the title are impressive. I wonder when the Swamp Thing crossover will happen, feels like they've been teasing it forever.

Anyone read "Are You My Mother"? I really liked "Fun Home". I really didn't like AYMM.
Torrenting is the best. I can just download whatever comic book I have even the slightest interest in and throw it on my iPad and not worry about going broke. It's also the only possible way I could afford to have every single issue of the original EC Comics (Tales From the Crypt, Vault of Horror, etc.) instead of spending thousands of dollars online.
I don't torrent comics because the industry is struggling and I want to encourage the creators I love.
Translation from bullshit to English: I torrent movies, music and games on a regular basis but I don't like reading comics on a computer screen.
I don't torrent comics, but I did buy things like that "40 Years of the Avengers" DVD-ROM, which are full of awesome PDFs. The iPad is great for reading old comics.

Well I never spent money on comics before anyways, so it's not like my discovery of torrenting is costing the industry any money. At least that's what I tell myself so I can sleep at night.
I like Darwyn Cooke a lot (if you haven't, read DC's The New Frontier, it's DC characters presented in the context they were created for, and it's awesome) but I don't like Watchmen nearly enough to want to read more about it. I can appreciate Watchmen's impact on the industry, but it's a fucking funeral dirge of a comic book.
I'm in.
I only torrent comics if I want to read a complete overarching storyline where there are a ton of single issues involved (Avengers: Dissassembled and Blackest Night for example). Usually if I like them enough, I end up buying the trades.
Just read issue 100 of The Walking Dead. Not happy about who died. But overall I was pretty disappointed and think they hyped it up way too much.
Have you ever been happy about who died in that thing? It's an eternal bummer. The best feeling you get is "that could have been worse." I'm just starting the "larger world" stuff, but the thing's nuts. Almost hard to believe that the same guy does the never-a-bummer Invincible.
Not to turn this thread into my personal plug-a-thon (seriously, if it's out of line tell me) but my new series has been announced. It comes out in October, and you can pre-order it in August.

But I see what you mean. Usually I just roll with it though because I expect pretty much everyone to die. The only times I have been sad to see a character go are in this issue and the beheading outside the prison by the Governor. I'm trying to be very vague in case anyone hasn't caught up yet.
I never hated any of the "good" characters in the comic as much as I hate just about all of them in the TV show, which I watched most of before I read the books. But I burned through them pretty fast, and I don't like it that much. I just read it when I want to see what each character's face is going to look like each time it appears.
