Just read the new Detective Comics # 1 and 2. I liked it a lot more than "Batman". I think I might subscribe to that and Action Comics, I liked the #2 of that as well.

I bought a bunch of the new DC #1s today and read through them. Surprisingly good! Most of them anyway, Superman #1 was pretty rough. I don't know why anyone would want to read about Superman stopping unpowered bank robbers anymore. It's like watching a race between a guy with a motorcycle and a guy with multiple sclerosis.
I'm in.
My friend got the 52 for $52 deal, so hopefully he'll let me borrow the ones I haven't read. Oh, and All-Star Western was cool too. Jonah Hex in 1880's Gotham investigating a murder with Amadeus Arkham. The only thing i know about Jonah Hex if that a terrible looking movie was made recently.
Hey everybody! I hAven't posted in a Long time cuz my MacBook pooped the bed. So now thAt I have this iPhone I can post again. Yay! Anyhoodles, anyone been reading Scalped? I just picked up the first 2 trades a few weeks ago and I Thought it was really good. Anyone got any new recommendations? I'm thinking about getting into some classic marvel or DC but I don't know where I should start. I did find a new store called alter ego comics which is a great shop. Super psyched I found that place cuz I'm always down to support a good local shop.
Just picked up: Detective Comics, Batman, Birds of Prey, Animal Man. Anybody have any suggestions for more detective stories like Chew, or Powers? I'm also interested in Iron Man noir but keep hearing mixed reviews (or anything from that noir series).
Everyone loves Chew. I need to read it myself.
"Not the victory but the action. Not the goal but the game. In the deed the glory."
Yeah, Chew is just a lot of fun. Creative and silly, also pretty gruesome and occasionally action-packed. I'm also loving Locke & Key but it seems like forever between issues.
I don't know if I mentioned it in this thread, but I recently read Y: The Last Man for the first time and was blown away by it. I probably already mentioned that, though.
Just bought The Goon Volumes 3-7. Been hinting at the goylefriend that I really want to read The Goon Noir (Hi, Christmas). Hope that movie comes out eventually...
I've been working my way through the Hellboy/B.P.R.D. stuff. Sometimes Hellboy can get a little too "philosophical" for it's own good, but I like the mythology building. I am really shocked, though, by the quality of the B.P.R.D. spin off. I wasn't expecting great things after Hellboy split off, but the stuff in those mini series is immensely enjoyable and Guy Davis' artwork is great.
I started reading Haunt this weekend. It's a strange comic, if Robert Kirkman hadn't written the first 16 issues I don't think it would have gotten off the ground. Kirkman makes it really readable, but it's a weird mash-up of genres. I've never read a supernatural spy thriller before.
I'm in.
Y the last man is great. I just got the first issue of Locke and key but haven't read it yet. Hope it's good. I've also been reading Haunt and I liked it. I only bought it cuz kirkman. I'll buy anything he does
Here is a bit I did about Ed Brubaker at his Meltdown Comics event this week.

Nice, it's not often I get to see comic book standup! I had no idea this thread existed either. I just got back into comic books again after about 5 years off. Went totally overboard and bought a ton of comic books and graphic novels in the past few months. Haven't flipped back through the old pages of this thread yet to see what's been discussed, but a few of my favorites so far have been Animal Man, Swamp Thing, Sweet Tooth, and Uncanny X-Force. But I've been getting comics from everyone (Marvel, DC/Vertigo, independent). It's been a lot of fun discovering new characters in the books I used to read and finding new books. I just hope my bank account can keep up with some of the $3.99 prices.
Wow, I originally picked Det. Comics over Batman in the new 52... I take that back. Although i remember the first issue being better.
Yeah, I liked Detective Comics better after the first issues of each, but it went downhill fast. Meanwhile, the Court of Owls plot in Batman has got me gripped. I've actually liked Batwing a lot, too. That's the only other comic I've been reading from the Batman family. I wonder if Batman: The Dark Knight or Batman & Robin have gotten any better since the first issues.
I'm enjoying Thief of Thieves, too. Fatale is okay. It's kind of dense and I have trouble keeping the characters and plot straight. It's one of those books that I feel like I should probably like more than I do. I just got the fourth issue today, but haven't read it yet. Going to give it at least a couple more issues before I decide what I think of it. As far as getting #1, I ended up having to pay $10 on eBay. I think shelling out so much is another reason I keep giving it another shot!
I didn't notice this thread before. Last fall I started a pull-list again after a several years break. X-Men: Schism got my ass back in a comic shop because I saw a preview online and it seemed like a refreshingly personal and intimate "Marvel event". I loved where it took the X-Men and I've been loving the ongoing it launched, Wolverine and the X-Men.
That being said, the general highlight of what I've read for the past 7 months is the "Dark" line of DC's rebooted line-up. Swamp Thing and Animal Man have both been phenomenal, but also every title on that list has been really solid except for Voodoo. It's not that I only enjoy the darker stuff but it just so happens that DC really nailed all of those books.
But yeah, I think Swamp Thing is the best comic on stands right now. I don't read everything, but enough to hurt my wallet. The newly-launched BKV-written Saga is super promising too.
I'm happy to hear Schism got you back into reading comics, because I thought that was a such a well done event, and the X-books after have lived up to it, especially Jason Aaron's Wolverine and the X-Men.
Saga was an amazing first issue. It's been weeks since I've read it and parts of it still stay with me. I enjoyed reading Y and Ex Machina all the way through, and I'm very happy to be starting a new book by BKV.
