    The Best/Favorite Ending to "Clue"

(I can't figure out how to do a poll and besides, we gotta save up our voting fingers for November)

Which ending do you prefer and which one makes the most sense.

    -Miss Scarlett did it.
    -Ms. Peacock did it.
    -The ALL did it.

I can recognize all its flaws and missteps and questionable story elements, but I will always have a soft spot in my heart for "Clue: the Movie." It's probably got a lot to do with nostalgia, having watched it in probably 3rd grade, but I can almost guarantee that the singing telegram bit represents the first time I ever laughed at someone getting shot ("Raiders" came out earlier, but I don't think I saw it before "Clue"). And I was like seven or eight!

I think my favorite ending is the Miss Scarlett ending. And this might be just because on the video, the movie rolled right into it. With the other two, you had to reset yourself and get right before hearing the case against Peacock or the others. Miss Scarlett has a few re-enactments, has the whole bullet count bit ("One plus two plus two plus one"), and it even has the better reveal of the police chief.

I think it may actually make the most sense of the three, too. Why did Peacock really murder so many people (in the second ending), and to believe that they all killed someone--including Wadsworth who chose to expose himself (go on, say it)--in the third is a bit out there. But the Miss Scarlett one has the most footing in whatever someone could interpret as reality.

But what say you on this very important, very topical matter?

"Clue" is great and don't ever let anyone tell you different. My favorite ending is the last one, at least, I think it's the funniest. The Peacock one never really worked for me.

Why is this a thread, now?

I think the last ending is the most interesting, that the guy set up everyone to kill someone.

I love Clue! I even love the little bit of music in between the endings. What flaws does this movie have?? I'd like to hear all about it!

It's little nitpicks here and there which--as I've grown older--I've seen as weaknesses.

The whole opening doesn't exactly crackle. Things really get popping when Wadsworth reads everyone's secrets, almost 20 minutes in. That dog poop on the shoe thing doesn't work great, nor does it work any better as a call back.

And while I always loved having the multiple endings, I think in order to serve that gimmick as well as the gimmick of the game-as-movie, logic and sense went out the window a few times. Like why can you only use the lead pipe or wrench once to kill one person? Why do they keep searching the house after they've already searched it? And the whole chaos of who got killed when only really makes sense if you really, really want it to.

Which I do. I enjoy the opening chaos so much that I'm willing to sacrifice logic down the road.

That's all. I love most of the puns, double entendres, zingers and all the physical things.

It's so odd that this came up since I just watched this movie for the first time in probably ten years. (My friend = "They made CLUE into a MOVIE?" Video store.) I completely agree with pmottaz above. The beginning is incredibly slow with lots of lazy PG humor. Also, it's a total waste of Madeline Kahn and Martin Mull. If it weren't for Tim Curry and Michael McKean, this would be completely forgettable.

It does have a few of the world's finest funny-death moments though... I can't imagine anyone not gut-laughing at the Singing Telegram sequence, and it's really fun watching the group gradually become numb to murder, piling up bodies like furniture and remarking "This is getting serious," at the 6-count.

I also had no idea John Landis had a story credit on this.

She's given about five lines, only half (yes, 2.5) of which are laugh-lines. The same can be said for Christopher Lloyd, but he makes the movie better just by being there.

I remember being really young, four or five, and watching the movie in my room, then running out to tell my mom how funny it was that Rick Moranis (right?) said "And now I'm going home to sleep with my wife." And then there was a pause, and I kind of realized what was happening, and then said, "Because he was tired."

    No.

Was that Michael McKean? I haven't seen it since I was five. Why did I think it was Rick Moranis? He's not even in it, and he's nothing like Michael McKean.

You aren't alone, I too thought it was Rick Moranis when I was a kid.

Yes, but one was the immortal "I hated her soooo much...flames, on the side of my face, breathing, heaving breath..."

    I mean, come on.

Yeah, that's her shining moment. I bet she made it up too. I'm not going after her at all. I feel like they used all that sweet Milton-Bradley money to put together one of the all-time best ensemble casts, and then they put 98% of the weight on Curry.

What about the mysterious 4th ending? Anyone seen or heard anything about it?
What was the best concert you've been to?

-- Probably Sade. It was just so sexy and relaxing.

Nnnnnnnno... I did read a little on a "Clue: The Movie" fansite about letters between Landis and Tom Stoppard, who apparently worked on an early draft. There was no mention of a fourth ending. There were deviations of course--it was supposed to take place in Florida during a tropical storm--but nothing specific about a fourth ending.

As far as Kahn goes, I think she probably gets as much as anyone could reasonably expect in something this packed with characters. She makes the most out of her bits, and other little treasures. Such as after one of the times Wadsworth switches off the lights, she does this "Ah-ohAAAH-ah" scream. And then when they come back ("Didn't mean to frighten you" "You're a bit late for that!") Mister Green turns to White and says, "I hate when he does that," and Kahn responds with the same little scream.

"We should've made sure he was dead."
"How? By cutting his head off, I suppose."
    "THAT was uncalled for."

This movie is on of my all time favorites. The intro is great for what it is... an intro. It's like the director says: Okay, you get who everyone is now? Okay, ready.... here we go!

Oh and when they are in the kitchen with the matchsticks partnering up to search the house and they are walking around comparing matchsticks... funny stuff.

It's a great movie and yeah, the Scarlett ending and the Wadsworth ending are the best two.

I do like the line "Mrs Peacock was a man?!"
