    Check out this perfect angel.

This finally made it set in for me. We had the world's shittiest old school ultrasound the first time, and I couldn't see anything. Today I saw all it's limbs, the baby was pumping it's arms and legs and flipping around... I saw it's face. HOLY SHIT I'M HAVING A REAL HUMAN BABY IN 6 MONTHS YOU GUYS.

    Please do.

There's a great book called Baby Bargains that's really helpful with figuring out what to get. I did have a bit of a panic attack when I realized how much stuff that actually was, but it's still really helpful.

We actually have the book and it has been helpful. We just haven't been able to get beyond cribs and dressers!

Just to one up timbuktu, at our anatomy scan last week the baby sucked its thumb like a goddam champ! I would post a pic but I'm afraid of watching the dvd again and running into its lady/gentleman bits.

This thing was our lifesaver (other than the Ergo) and it was cheap. It's nice because it kind of cradles the baby more than a bassinet, is good for them if they have reflux, is portable (and LIGHT) and meets all the safety standards for bassinets. Henry slept in it for at least a few weeks, and then off and on when he had colic. He still uses it for naps. Now that he can sit up and roll over he likes it less, but at 7 months/21 pounds he still fits in it.

If I already posted this, I apologize. My brain is like oatmeal.

I'm pretty obsessed with making baby food, by the way. But if you give your kid blueberries, it turns his shit bluish black. Be warned.

Yeah, and perhaps not surprisingly, it also smells a lot like blueberries. I mean, it mostly still smells like shit, but there's definite blueberry smell in the mix. My kids eat tons of blueberries. I think we go to the grocer store, on average, every 36 hours. Overall, having kids wasn't that expensive at first, but I was surprised how much it changed once they started eating regular food. I can't believe how much we spend on groceries now. God help me when their teenagers. Fortunately, we have tons of money available from never having any sort of adult fun!

Please. This all started with this thread, when you realized what an awesome baby looks like. Still the gold standard.

    Congrats everyone!

Edit - We looked into those chair things above and read reviews on that one that they give babies flat heads. You guys got some flat headed babies or what?

    Re: The baby thread

Huh. We have one, and while our baby's head is slightly flat in back (so's our daughter's and she didn't use one -- could be genetic), it's nothing the pediatrician thought twice about (her words re: head shape: "looks great!"). Wouldn't lying flat on his back in a crib (the way you're meant to put them) have the same effect? If anything this thing puts less weight on the back of the head because they're at an angle. (PS: it's been great for us too -- in fact that's where Charlie slept for the first few weeks, but I got worried he would get addicted and not be able to sleep in a normal crib ever, so we switched to a co-sleeper, then a crib at 3mo. We still use it all the time though, for like when we're cooking or eating dinner or whatever and just need to put him down briefly.)

In closing, if you have the misfortune of having a baby that gets a cold or is stuffed up at all, this thing is a great way to get them some sleep, because the angle seems to open up the nasal airways. With our first we had to prop up the crib mattress with rolled up towels to achieve this, and it wasn't great.

That was what I said to my wife (MY WIFE - Pete Holmes, Borat voice). All babies have a semi flat back of the head, and to fix it doctors just tell you to hold your baby more.

We used one of these for our first, and loved it:

(it's a little low to the ground though, now we have a 2 year old.)

My friend's daughter had to wear a helmet for a while due to flat-headedness. There is nothing sadder than a 6-month-old in a padded helmet.

    Re: The baby thread

Holy shit! We have to worry about the shape of our baby's head? I'm not ready for this... I'm gonna buy the wrong damned mattress or something and end up with a teenager who hates me for her flat head.
I obviously have nothing interesting to add to this conversation.
