Congrats Kent and co! Much like Remo Williams, the Adventure Begins!

P.S. Given the formatting of your post, I first thought that Jimmy Pardo was mad that your newborn son isn't talking about his dick enough. Rest assured, once they learn to talk, that is all any little boy wants to talk about. My 4-year old put his in a water bottle the other day and just started laughing maniacally. So look forward to that kind of stuff in your home. All the time.

Anyone, especially ladies who've had kids, have any ideas for nice things I could get for my wife while she carries this baby around?

    Re: The baby thread

Is she super thirsty? I was super thirsty. It sounds silly but getting her a fancy water bottle or cup that you can freeze is a nice little treat. And lots of nice pillows. And food. And bottles of juice.

Heh... I'm realizing that the most comforting thing my husband did while I was pregnant was to just get up and get me things when I asked for it, learned to go to the grocery store effectively, took the pets to the vet so I didn't have to, etc. etc. The material stuff I liked was all kind of lame.

    This pillow:
    http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000635WI/..._qgbtqb1RVXJV4

First time around, my wife had a Boppy maternity pillow (not full body) and it sucked. Second time around, I got her this one bc it was #1 on Amazon, and she basically spent six months talking about how it changed her life and was the greatest thing ever. Luckily she passed it on after our son was born, because it was like having a third person in bed with us, but the quality of sleep it afforded during otherwise uncomfortable times was priceless. $50 is a lot for a pillow, but my wife would say it was worth every penny.

Oh, YEAH. I had my baby!

She was born 9/3/2012, 5PM, LABOR DAY. She was 7 pounds, 7 oz., 20" long. Her name is Tenny Frances Platt. And she is awesome.

On a separate note, did you guys have trouble processing the reality of the whole thing? Intellectually, I know it's coming, but for some reason it doesn't feel real. My wife's cousin gave us a ton of hand me down stuff today, and I'm just staring at it. I'm looking at the car seat, for example, and can't imagine actually putting a baby in it. I feel like part of me is still terrified that something is going to go wrong. Am I crazy? Also, check out this room full of random shit.

Yeah it's so much stuff. We're moving next week and I can't wait because we quickly outgrew our space within just a few months... The car seat is daunting at first. So is the stroller. But you do it a few dozen times and it becomes like second nature. Taking them home from the hospital is pretty mind-blowing. I sat in the back seat with him for basically the first month whenever we went anywhere.

Have I mentioned that this is ABSOLUTELY the best baby carrier? It's for slightly older babies (so get a different one for your smaller babies) but it can carry babies up to 45 pounds (on your back like a piggy back or facing you on the front) and it's super comfortable. My seven month old is over 20 pounds and I'm a short person and I can carry him with no issues. Super easy to get on and off, too. Buy one. You will not regret it. Henry sleeps in it, even in public.

you can get them slightly cheaper on Amazon. I have the organic and it's my favorite thing.

PS. On the processing thing... I was all good until like three weeks before he was born and it turned into "OH MY GOD THERE IS A HUMAN IN HERE AND IT IS GOING TO COME OUT AND NEED US TO TAKE CARE OF IT" and even now I still have trouble believing we made this awesome little person. (Much less the fact that he grew in my body. Still so weird. Alien pod baby.)

The ergo is great but so far I like the Beco Gemini better. Very similar to the ergo but the straps are more comfortable and you can have the baby face in or out.

I'm a stroller nerd and happy to help. Don't get a travel system. The strollers are always terrible. You're better off getting a frame that you can snap the infant carseat into to start and then get a good stroller to go with it. Do you know if you want a jogging stroller? A stroller with a reversible seat so you can see the baby? I can make some recommendations.
