Is it me or is using a Nine Inch Nails song in a trailer on its way to become the equivalent of using the "In a world..." phrase?

They do it because it reminds them of when people used to buy five of every comic book.

I don't have a witty reply because I'm tired and I need to go to bed.

I also liked the animated Avengers series. It's on netflix instant, and worth watching.... I always thought DC did a much better job with animation until I watched this. It really is a "season", the episodes link together for the most part.

Compared to the soundtracks of the Iron Man franchise NIN was a sensible choice, but it felt weird to me too. Maybe because that song off The Fragile, while awesome, doesn't have the same perception of being timeless as Iron Man or Highway to Hell?

Also, 70s hard rock is a good tonal pairing for a big, bright superhero movie. Way moreso than late-90s, depressive industrial rock.

I think they picked it because he says "you and me, we're in this together now/ none of them can stop us now." And then cut the song so that you can't see how inappropriate it is. It's like playing Every Breath You Take at a wedding reception.

I just saw the movie, it was pretty awesome. End post here to avoid any chance of spoilers.

It was very Whedon-y. In a good way.

I keep hearing people using adjectives like pretty awesome, very good and excellent to describe the movie. This worries me. The Avengers is supposed to be nothing less than the best superhero movie of all time god dammit!

As someone who doesn't really care for superhero stuff I liked it well enough. Hulk was definitely the highlight.

As someone who loves superhero stuff, I can say that it was really great. The dialogue and the humor are very classic Whedon, but it works extremely well. And it turns out, if you give him a massive budget, the man can direct some really fantastic action scenes.

    Re: Avengers Shit

There are essentially two ways to go about making a superhero movie. You can make a “superhero” movie, (Christopher Nolan’s Batman films or Bryan Singer’s Superman) which takes the tropes, symbols and larger-than-life characters of the comic book universe seriously, analyzing the semiotics and psychology of superheroes and the culture that produces them. Or, you can say screw that egghead stuff and make a SUPERHERO movie, (John Favreau’s Iron Man or Richard Donner’s Superman) focusing on the technicolor spectacle that is the essential justification for the genre and leave the parsing of subtext to film critics and American Studies majors.

People interested in crowning a “greatest ever” superhero movie are really looking for a film that combines the two approaches to form the ultimate: a “SUPERHERO” movie. Whether such a beast is even possible is up for debate. Many people have claimed that The Dark Knight embodies the synthesis, but it really doesn’t. Are the action scenes (except for that kickass truck crash) on anyone’s list of the twenty most memorable things about that film? As great as it is, TDK is a pure “superhero” movie. Other films, like Ang Lee’s Hulk, attempt the synthesis and fail miserably.

The triumph of The Avengers is that it never wavers in it’s commitment to delivering the titanic action pageantry and iconic superhero personalities that drew us all to these characters when we were not-yet-jaded youngsters. And that’s why it's the best SUPERHERO movie I've ever seen.

Yeah, what the Weinerslave said. This shit was bonkers and so much fun. I don't know if I've ever had more fun in a movie theater.

How do you make a great film even better? Harry Dean Stanton!

I echo Weinderslave's sentiment. It's definitely my favorite superhero movie yet. My eyes got ever-so-slightly watery with joy during "that Hulk moment".

I'm gonna buy the living shit out of that Blu-Ray when it comes out.

Who would have thought you could make a fun summer movie that didn't insult the audience's intelligence the whole time? Not Micheal Bay.

That wasmthe most fun I've had at a movie in a while. The Hulk is one of my favorite things ever, I loved the show as a kid. This was the first time I've enjoyed the Hulk as an adult.
