As long as the DHCP server on the second, older router isn't set to the same IP address as the newer airport, I don't see how it'd be an issue either. Though any time I tried to do something similar, like bridge my wireless router to another wireless router it was met with mixed success. However, that was trying to bridge it wirelessly, so yeah just make sure the older router can hit the modem and you should be set to have the WEP only device hit the older router.

How do you think the Verizon/Google/Motorola Droid will fare against the iPhone? I'm on Verizon and way overdue for a new phone but anything toted as "the must have gadget of the year" makes me think it's overcompensating for something.

It's supposed to be a good phone, and Android is definitely the only platform I'd want to be on if I didn't (or couldn't) have an iPhone. Plus, Verizon has the best network (supposedly). I would wait for it to come out and read reviews on Engadget and Gizmodo before buying though -- Verizon is notorious for meddling with their phones, disabling features, or re-packaging them for a premium, and I'm not convinced they finally "get it" that users don't want V-Cast and all that bullshit.

Right now the only phone other than an iPhone I would want is probably the HTC Hero on Sprint. It's also Android (with Sense UI for extra nice-ness), Sprint's 3G network is fast and solid (better than AT&T) and I never had a problem with their coverage in LA.

ILIS: if it's a big deal, you could probably find a Wireless-G router to connect your DS Lite at Fry's for under $20.

well looks like the folks at motorola leaked the full specs on droid for a bit...

    highlights being
    - 5mp digital camera with Image Stablizer
    - full keyboard
    - video capture rate 24 fps/720x480
    - 385 min continuous talk time/270 hours standby
    - wifi
    - html5 compatible, and flash compatible in 2010

    ...and more spec screenshots.

PS: I may be an Apple fanboy, but that "Droid Does" campaign is so 1999. Ooh yeah, iPhones are sissy! I want a scary, post-apocalyptic phone that can hack into the Matrix and kill Sarah Connor.

I said supposedly because Gizmodo did a test and ranked Sprint #1 in 3G speed and gave them good marks for coverage too.

    They aren't.

Right now the only way to get a Magic Mouse is to buy a new iMac. BUT having a Magic Mouse with anything other than a new iMac right now is pointless, because they don't currently work on old iMacs or Macbooks. A software update has to come out first.

But the new Magic Mouse is waaaay awesome, and totally worth the $70 when they become available for everone to use (hopefully by Monday), even if you currently have a Mighty Mouse.

HTC? Honestly, I've never even heard of the brand until you mentioned it and had to look it up... and it turns out they're releasing a phone a week after the Droid. If I'm understanding all these news leaks correctly, Droid is going to be the brand for which several android phones will be released within Verizon. HTC's Eris will be touchscreen droid phone released on November 6.

They're already making this droid thing confusing... but at least it looks like I have some options. Bravo for making some viable competition for those unwilling to switch carriers.

That's smart, because the only downside to the Droid is that some people prefer a touchscreen keyboard to a real one. (Although apparently even with the QWERTY and slider it's barely thicker than an iPhone, which boggles my mind a bit.)

HTC has been making WinMo phones for a while, and they make the Hero for Sprint, which was a lot of people's favorite Android phone until this whippersnapper came along.

I think Google is mismarketing Android pretty greatly. They're touting upgradability and hackability and already we have first gen phones that don't have enough memory for the new OS upgrades, phones with radically different UIs, phones with radically different feature sets that will make writing software for a single platform downright obnoxious. This marketing tactic is going to seriously come back and bite them in the asshole.

    Re: Apple talk

Yeah, for all the geek lust the Droid is inspiring, I think Verizon and Moto and maybe even Google are still missing the point: it's not about specs or size or the latest, best hardware bells and whistles, it's about what the device can actually do and do well to connect you with the people you know and the information you want quickly and simply. Apple's smartest move with the iPhone has been to focus all their advertising on the apps (which they have thousands more of than any other platform) -- the apps represent the infinite Swiss Army knife-ability of the iPhone, making if seem like it can do anything you can imagine. In reality most apps are worthless, but there are consistently cool innovations coming out of the app store all the time, giving people more and
more reasons to love their iPhones (or crave one if they don't have one). Meanwhile, no one talks about Android apps, or Blackberry apps, or Palm apps. The average person probabaly won't buy apps for their Blackberry or their Pre, but even my 66-year-old mom is caught up in all the crazy stuff she can do with her iPhone beyond the core functionality, and she probably never even took a picture on a cell phone before getting an iPhone. To move the mainstream forward so significantly so quickly in the adoption of new technology is pretty amazing.

    This is the only reason I would ever buy an iphone;

    iphone ukelele app.

Once I learned and played 'You belong to Me' from the Jerk, I'd throw the iphone in the trash and call it a day.
Hey, check me out. I'm a ghost.

Totally. And sadly, in that analogy, iPhone = Windows. Which is why I want these other platforms to be good and challenge Apple. Because without competition, the iPhone will not evolve and Apple won't loosen the reins on it -- it has so much potential, if they would just let devs and users have more control over it (one eg. out of a million: I shouldn't have to jailbreak my phone to customize the incoming text chime -- if nothing else I want at least as much flexibility as I have had on my Mac for years).

My f*cking Photoshop CS3 wants me to kill myself. When I try to save (or "save as") it crashes. Not EVERY time, but a lot. Enough to be a serious problem. I've tried disabling Version Cue and the genius at Adobe charged me $50 to tell me to change the extension on my Adobe Photoshop CS3 prefs to ".old" -- this didn't work, either.

If anybody has any ideas, I would be forever grateful...

Although this is kind of true, there actually WAS a linux OS for phones that was a horrible failure. Linux = open and google = open, but open =/= linux, I guess.

Boy Genius Report has a pretty nice preview of the Verizon Droid.

    http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/...droid-preview/

I'm on Verizon, and I was hoping to get the HTC touch Pro 2...but I'm going to have to wait now. Android > Winmo, even if the touchpro2 has better hardware than the Droid, I think.

The HTC Desire sounds wonderful, though.

A netbook has been on my list of "If I had a ton of spare cash I would buy _____" list for a while.

I have a pretty diesel laptop, but it's huge and the battery life is sub-2 hours.

For people who have netbooks AND notebooks, do you get good use out of it?
