Motoblur is shit, but Motorola keeps trying to change it because of this. I haven't played with a Triumph in person, so I couldn't tell you what flavor of shit it is, but chances are that the skin is awful.

That said, the rest of the phone might make up for it, and you can always download a launcher replacement and re-skin it with something you prefer.

So apparently Android tablets have 30% marketshare now. Not bad for less than a year (Fifty percent of the smartphone market).

Yup. I think this is generally B.S. Not just what Apple is doing, but what patents have become. The whole point of patents is to increase innovation. But at this point, with patent trolling, etc, many patent laws have become anti innovative, and in a lot of ways, anti-competitive practices. Some android folks recently said they've got their own ways to deal with this...

This American Life did an interesting segment on the whole thing relatively recently.

Whoa...Google is going to buy Motorola's mobile division! Quite a few implications. Hopefully Motorola can provide google a patent firewall, and maybe we'll slowly begin to see a hardware side of google. Hopefully it also means relatively skinless Motorola/android products? At the least, I'm pretty sure this means all the Nexus phones will be Motorolas going forward.

Edit: looks like a big factor of google's acquisition was Motorola's patents. Guess Apple and Microsoft won't be able to push it around anymore.

    Re: Androidj

Yesterday I made about an hour drive at 6:00 am and the whole drive, Google Music Beta streamed in my car flawlessly. Then I made the return trip around noon and it was nothing but stops and starts, jumping all around and behaving terribly. The only explanation I can think of is that the signal was stronger at 6:00 am because fewer people were using it, and by noon, the network was clogged. I'm not sure that's how it works, though, or if a busier network would necessarily cause songs to stop in the middle/skip to new tracks, etc. Anyone know?

Can I say what pisses me off whenever they show those pictures of android vs apple stuff is that they always show the android with the app drawer open, not what the normal home screen usually looks like, full of widgets and whatsnots.

Actually, turned out they weren't at the time I wrote that because my friend scored one. I was on a train with my cell phone so I couldn't get to be sure. They were available at amazon an hour ago too, but obviously with a price like that, they going to go fast.

    Also: figures.

Sounds like Sprint is getting the iPhone 5 next month. I was looking at phones, and to be honest, nothing was inspiring me to use my upgrade just yet. I don't really care about 3D video and shit like that. That seems to be the kind of stuff manufacturers are focusing on. Android phones are getting bigger and bigger. I don't really need that either.

I am also getting frustrated with manufactures sitting on Android updates. It seems like it should be a simple thing to do honestly. If manufactures did not fuck with the OS they would not have to modify the updates.

So I have a big boy choice coming up.

What's everyone think of the Kindle Fire? For the price, it looks amazing.

I have the first Samsung Galaxy tab 7 inch and it goes with me almost everywhere. Its the size of a decent paperback so I think the Fire will be pretty cool. I really don't think it'll cut into IPads market as much as it'll hurt the Nook and many Android tablets. Judging by my tab it makes a great e-reader, entertainment device but I think the 10 inch form factor is better for browsing, reading magazines and comics.

it's probably the first one that I've seen that is actually visually appealing on par with something that the Apple designers would do (and much more interesting than the iPad desktop)

I think it's basically what everyone wanted the color Nook to be, just better on every front and without the need to hack. It probably does 90% of what people really do on their iPads, for less than half the cost, so it should be popular. I also think Amazon has the muscle to make it a hit. It feels like the first real-deal challenger to the iPad. The lack of 3G is a little baffling, and I haven't really looked at the other specs, but if it web browses like a champ, works well as a media player and plays the games people want to play, it's going to kill. Is it all streaming on the media front? Because that will not necessarily be great on planes (even on planes with wifi, I'd rather play files locally and save battery life by not turning wifi on).

I don't think so. It has 8 GB of internal storage and says it plays mp4 format, so I assume you can play ripped movies, etc.

That's the only drawback to me (the 8gb of non-expandable storage); it's reliant on a wireless connection and media content from the cloud. I filled up 16gb on my Tab in no time. I'm not concerned about local storage for my movies as much as I am pictures and music.
