Re: Amsterdam!

Yeah I told my fiancee that but he thinks it will be more fun that way. I just can't wait to see him struggle to light a cigarette in that wind.

Re: Amsterdam!

crlygrl,

Back in '93, I stayed at a little bed-and-breakfast in Amsterdam called Seven Bridges. It was a nice place and pretty inexpensive as I recall. I was visiting my then-girlfriend/now-wife, Miriam who was in the very first cast of the improv/sketch group Boom Chicago at the time. You might want to check out a show by Boom Chicago while you're there. I hear they've got a really nice theatre now. When Miriam was in the group, they performed in a little bar. I could tell they had a good thing going even back then, though. The crowds were really into it.

Here's a link to the Boom Chicago website:

Have a great trip!

Re: Amsterdam!

4 months til liftoff! (and only like six weeks til the wedding!)

I think we may stay here: http://www.vrbo.com/245610

...and fly British Airways since it's almost a direct flight. Any tips on flying? Is it worth flying a US airline to get a cheaper price or do airlines like USAIR suck just as much for cross Atlantic flights as they do for domestic ones?

Re: Amsterdam!

Rent a bike or buy a cheap one. Everyone in The Netherlands bikes everywhere, plus you'll get to see more of the city that way.

In my experience, most carriers for overseas flights are pretty much the same, even crappy ones you would avoid here. Of course I've never flown USAIR overseas, but I've flown Delta and American and they have been fine. Free booze and everything. If the flight isn't full, try to get seats in the back of the plane. It puts you in a better position for moving if there are empties so you may be able to get a row to yourself which makes all the difference. Make sure to wear easy on and off shoes for going to the bathroom and for stuffing your swollen sausage feet into at the end of the flight.

Ativan and vodka also give you wings. And cotton mouth.

Re: Amsterdam!

OK, AST... We're digging out of a waist-deep snow fuck, and there's a winter storm watch on for the night we fly out. Send us your good vibes! We have got to get the hell out of this country and off to our honeymoon!

Also, we've been invited by a fan of The Best Show to go to a show at Boom Chicago, sit at the cast table and drink for free! I can't wait! Such a nice invite!

Re: Amsterdam!

Yup! Our flight is Tuesday night and we're going Tuesday afternoon. We'll have to drag our luggage through the snow on our street to one that's plowed. If our flight gets canceled then we'll stay the night there at the airport hotel. Because there is NO WAY I'm giving up and coming home. Not until I've seen Amsterdam, goddammit.

Good luck!

Tell everyone that tries to stand in your way that you're not giving up until you're eating Hash covered Stroop waffles in front of a window whore.

Re: Amsterdam!

Flight cancelled. Rebooked for Weds night, when there's supposed to be 20 inches of snow on the ground, so I'm thinking we'll get out on Thursday instead. We're staying with my parents who don't live in the city... they basically don't plow here. My Dad has dedicated himself to the cause of getting us to the airport no matter what.

To say this sucks doesn't do it justice.

Re: Amsterdam!

Yeah that really sucks, crly. I'm doin a reverse snow dance in the hopes that you guys aren't snowraped too too badly and can get out there with minimal delay.

Pajamas are definitely on inside-in, thankyouverymuch.

Re: Amsterdam!

That is really shitty, especially when everyone else around here is enjoying what's shaping up to be a weeklong vacation. I hope everything goes through smoothly.
