4th of July plans?

I'm just wondering what you've got going on to celebrate Independence Day this year.

(Yes, I'm being culturally insensitive by assuming that everyone on here celebrates American Independence Day...sorry, Berliner, Duff, etc.)

Food, fireworks and fun?
Car travel, camping and copious alcohol consumption?
Music, meat, mayhem and murder?

What's on your holiday menu?

pg--Curious. AND without plans of his own while being far from home. Invites are welcome!--seattle (but will be in Illinois on July 3rd.)

Did you know that Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island originally started in 1916 as a way for a group of immigrants to settle a dispute and prove who was the most patriotic?

Re: 4th of July plans?

I plan to visit my husband's grandmother and scan the radio waves for "R-O-C-K in the U.S.A" and get really mad that nobody is playing it.

I'm doing a 10k in North Andover, MA. Then I'm getting on an airplane and going to France.

Going to my uncle's annual thing in Pawling, NY, where he always has one of those mosquito killing machines running. Badminton!

Re: 4th of July plans?

I plan on waiting until dusk, then climbing up on my roof and sitting in a folding chair to watch the fireworks. Then, the flimsy chair will collapse from the strain of my massive girth, I'll somersault backwards off of the roof and onto a pile of rusting barbecue tools I still haven't put away from the 2008 July 4th party I held back when my friends and I were still on speaking terms. My groans of agony will be indistinguishable from the "oooohs" and "ahhhhhs" emanating from the gathered masses at the parties being held by my next-door neighbors who didn't even have the decency to give me a pity invite. My cats will watch from the window, wondering why I'm not moving, wondering why I haven't fed them or given them any water for days, unaware that daddy has a meat thermometer lodged in his heart.

But to answer your question, I'm not going to be celebrating it.

My bad, then.

Just for that you can discount everything I've ever said in the Stage Time section of AST.

America stands for freedom
But if you think you're free
Try going into a deli
And urinating on the cheese

I'm working on the second 4th in a row. Jay Reatard is playing that night but I don't think I'll be able to get someone who isn't drunk or sleeping to go with me.
