    Zoolander 2

    MTV article

Since 2001, comedy lovers have eagerly anticipated the further adventures of fashion icon Derek Zoolander, the dimwitted but goodhearted protagonist at the center of Ben Stiller's "Zoolander." Now, a decade later, the really, really, really good-looking model is set to stroll down the theatrical catwalk once more, as Stiller has confirmed to MTV News recent reports suggesting that a "Zoolander" sequel is in the works.

"Yes, it is true," Stiller said in an exclusive interview with MTV. "We're in the process of getting a script written, so it's in the early stages. But yeah, it's going to happen."

According to Stiller, "Zoolander 2" will focus on how the fashion industry has changed in the 10 years since moviegoers last saw Derek.

"In the fashion world, if you go away for a year, it's changed — it just happens so quickly," he said. "I think the idea in the beginning of the movie is that it's 10 years later, and Derek and Hansel [Owen Wilson's character] are literally forgotten. Nobody remembers who they are, so they have to reinvent themselves."

In addition to Wilson's character, Stiller said he's hoping for the return of Mugatu, the original film's villain played by Will Ferrell. "If Will says yes, he definitely has to be part of it," said the comedian. "To me, Mugatu is one of the classic screen villains of all time."

While "Zoolander 2" will explain what Derek and Hansel have been up to over the years, many of the film's fans have wondered why it's taken so long for a sequel to emerge. Stiller said that he's tried for years to figure out how to proceed with another installment, noting that the death of "Zoolander" co-creator Drake Sather in 2004 was a difficult obstacle to overcome. "For a long time, that was the hardest thing for me to figure out how to move forward through," he said. "Now, I think we have."

The "Zoolander 2" breakthrough owes thanks not just to Stiller and "Tropic Thunder" writer Justin Theroux, who is possibly directing the developing sequel, but also to other collaborators including original "Zoolander" writer John Hamburg and "Get Him to the Greek" director Nick Stoller.

"We're going to take the best of what we have," Stiller said of the current "Zoolander" game plan. "We have a new story idea that we feel excited about, and we're going to try to go forward."

What a lie. I mean, loved it at the time, but I've never sat crying in my corner wondering "Why oh why won't they do a SEQUEL!?!?!?"

But, I decided after rewatching some Ben Stiller Shows that I'm going to be supportive of whatever his next move is....so....Zoolander 2 it is.

Fantastic. Couple this with Austin Powers 4 and Men In Black 3 and you've got 100% absolute not-going-to-disappoint comedic gold.

Though the bit in Zoolander with the computer - "It's IN the computer?!?" - is awfully fantastic.

The first Zoolander is one of my favorite movies so I really hope this one is good. But if not I can't say I care. Its not going to ruin my love of the first one or anything.

Am I the only one who likes to think that "Dodgeball" is the sequel to "Heavyweights"?

i was not expecting this reaction.

    Zoolander is pretty funny.

And it would be nice to see Owen Wilson do something that's embarrassingly stupid on purpose. Pencil me in for "optimistic and curious".

So, there's zero chance that this comedian was joking around?

I've heard that said more often than I would like. When Dodgeball came out my boyfriend at the time said that. He still continues to make this comment whenever Dodgeball (or just dodgeball, the game) is discussed (which you know, happens at least 3 times a day).

Drake Sather was an awesome comic mind. In a better world, he'd still be with us. I always assumed that the gas station scene in Zoolander was his. Seems to match his sensibility pretty perfectly.

Zoolander is one of my huge guilty pleasures - I laugh like an idiot at it and I don't know why.

    I guess I'm okay with a sequel... I guess.

I assume this will be everything I liked about the first one, but bigger and better with more explosions.

    Re: Zoolander 2

During this weekend’s New York Comic Con, writer/director Justin Theroux confirmed to MTV that the first draft of "Zoolander 2"’s script is almost complete, featuring both Will Ferrell as Mugatu, and a new villain “inspired by” Jonah Hill.

As previously reported, the script follows Derek Zoolander and Hansel as they approach their 40s, now irrelevant in the fashion industry. Regarding Ferrell’s return, Theroux is quoted saying, “I think you’re going to see Mugatu, we are planning on seeing Mugatu.”

He also mentions there being “a couple new villains that step onto the stage,” and “Jonah is the inspiration for one of them.” Hill has previously mentioned that he had input about his character, but not regarding the storyline.

Theroux (a co-writer on "Tropic Thunder", and the DJ in the first "Zoolander") is one of Hollywood’s busiest men. He was at Comic Con as part of the "Your Highness" discussion panel, and is currently filming "Wanderlust" starring Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd’s prosthetic penis.

    Re: Zoolander 2

    http://the-frat-pack.com/2010/10/25/...ed-web-series/

Paramount Pictures and Red Hour Films will produce 2 new digital short web series as part of a new two-year deal struck with Ben Stiller. He will star in the two webseries, including reprising his titular role in a Zoolander animated series, and the lead role in the live action Billy Glimmer: Entertainer of the Century.

The Zoolander animated series could serve as the precursor for moving Zoolander 2 into development.

“It’s just a way to say, ‘Hey, let’s go do a couple of little five-minute episodes,’” Mr. Stiller said, “as opposed to saying, ‘Hey, let’s pitch it to the studio and then let’s have a fight over the budget for six months.’”

Stiller hopes to bring back the original cast, including Owen Wilson and Will Ferrell, for the digital shorts:

“You don’t want to have the guy who did the Hanna-Barbera cartoons come and do the voices,” Mr. Stiller said. “No offense to the Hanna-Barbera cartoons – I’m a huge Scooby-Doo fan.”

As for the live-action Billy Glimmer, Stiller has already shot a pilot, directed by Jason Woliner, the Human Giant writer/director who is currently developing three films for Aziz Ansari and Judd Apatow. Stiller will star as a “mid-level voice impersonator out of Las Vegas.” Rob Huebel (I Love You Man, Human Giant) will co-star. Huebel is no stranger to web-centered projects, as he currently stars in the just-renewed webisode-turned-series Children’s Hospital.
