i just posted the trailer in the AST Loves Movies thread
this looks awesome
This looks absolutely amazing.
To the legal team who made this movie possible, we thank you. So many vid game characters to license.
This looks fantastic. Like "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?' for the video game generation with all the licensed characters they managed to get in there.
My former co-worker directed this and he's awesome. I can't wait to see it.
I love videogames. I love John C. Reilly. I love Talking Heads. I assume I am going to love this movie.
sorry asr i didn't see your post in the movie thread! but i think this movie should have its own thread, i mean every single one of the main voice actors is in a show that has its own thread already. it looks really cool and it's pretty clearly aimed at nostalgic adults as well as kids who like movies.

My video game obsessed child will LOVE this. (and so will his Sarah Silverman-obsessed mom)
You can now play Fix it Felix Jr., the game from the film, online.

I've managed to get above 170,000. I know the guy that designed this game and he swears to me that it has a top. But I've climbed almost 40 levels and there doesn't seem to be an end in sight.
Geekiest name drop ever.
hello fans of video game movies and fatty pastries! wreck-it ralph will have a cameo from the ultimate papa, BEARD PAPA. don't believe me? every beard papa in the US currently has one of these sweet posters hanging up:
they do not appear to be for sale but maybe when the movie comes out? who knows?

Cool retro-styled 1982 commercial for Wreck-It Ralph:
Is it me, or does this movie seem like the movie that Pixar SHOULD have done this year instead of "Brave"? The premise of it just seems so Pixar-ish, similar to "Toy Story" and "Monsters, Inc.", taking something we are familiar with from childhood (in this case video game characters) and showing what their behind-the-scenes life is like. The writing in it just from these brief trailers already seems much better and more adult-oriented than any other animated movie coming out this year. So I'm kind of confused as to why this is just a normal Disney movie, and Pixar instead chose to do a princess-y female-oriented fantasy movie kind of like what Disney was doing 15-20 years ago. I didn't see "Brave", so I can't entirely speak from an informed place, but the fact that I wasn't all that excited to see it when I've seen every other Pixar movie in the theater opening weekend (even "Cars 2", which may have dulled my enthusiasm for "Brave" a bit) kind of tells you something.
Not sure why it matters, unless you fear that Disney animators aren't up to the task of making a CG movie about video games. Lassiter runs Disney Animation and Pixar, so the distinction between what Pixar produces and what Disney produces will continue to blur (franchises aside). I imagine Pixar folks wanted to stretch and try something different, hence Brave (which is exceedingly great technically, and just so-so story-wise), while Disney is always free to try different things, for better (Tangled) or worse (Bolt).
Yeah, you're right, I guess since Lassiter took over as head of Disney Animation Studios, the regular Disney movies have gotten more Pixar-ish, starting with "Meet the Robinsons", which I actually liked a lot. "Bolt", not so much, but it did have a few Pixar-like elements (the wiseguy pigeons, for one). "Princess & The Frog" seemed like an old-school Disney movie all the way, not Pixar-like at all. I haven't seen "Tangled". I guess I am just sort of surprised to see them handing off such a Pixar-ish premise to the regular animation division. And yeah, it was mostly the story of "Brave" that didn't seem Pixar-like to me, it seemed like a very old fashioned, fairy tale type story and not very interesting.
I don't know the story behind Ralph, but I would guess it was in development for years, maybe even before the Pixar merge. In any case, I doubt it was handed off to them as much as it was something Disney developed independently of Pixar, even if Lassiter was ultimately responsible for green lighting it. I guess my point is that despite one guy being in charge of both, they're still two studios separated by hundreds of miles, and each has its own execs and creative teams, so it's not like they're going to be swapping projects willy nilly. The idea behind putting Lassiter in charge of Disney was that he could help guide the Disney team to make whatever they were working on better, not dump scripts on them to slavishly produce themselves because Pixar didn't have the bandwidth.
