    Running Wilde

Hopefully this will get picked up, if so this can be its official thread.

Keri Russell is mulling a return to television. The "Felicity" star is in negotiations to star opposite Will Arnett in Fox's comedy "Wilde Kingdom."

"Wilde," from Lionsgate and Tantamount, stars Arnett as a Beverly Hills jackass who falls in love with a charitable tree-hugging woman (Russell) who can't stand his lifestyle or values.

"Arrested Development" creator Mitch Hurwitz is directing the single-camera pilot, which he co-penned with Arnett and "Development" writer-producer Jim Vallely. Lionsgate and Tantamount are producing.

Production on this show is going to delay the "Arrested Development" movie. Shooting on the movie is supposed to take place before the end of the year, however.

According to his twitter a couple weeks ago, Peter Serafinowicz is also in this. Or, at least in the pilot. A great show just keeps getting better.

Sorry to report that Nunez has been replaced on the show.

Cross won't be the only new face on the show. Fox is looking for a new actor to play Migo, a caretaker to Arnett's character, originally played by newcomer Joe Nunez.

"In the first drafts, he was a simple sidekick, but now it's going to be a heavier role and as it changed, it became clear that Joe wasn't quite what we were looking for," said Bob Huber, Fox's executive vice president of casting. "It's not fun at all to have those kinds of conversations with an actor, especially with someone new."

Some interesting tidbits from the TCAs:

.Hurwitz points to the late availability of the Russos, a short post window as the reasons for the weak original pilot...that and half the cast didn't work out, hence the various recastings.
.RUNNING WILDE will also relocate from Vancouver to New York, setting changed from Beverly Hills to Westchester
."I don't think you could do it." - Mitch Hurwitz on if ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT could get sold today.

Will Arnett and Mitch Hurwitz know you’re not over “Arrested Development.” And frankly, neither are they.

Since Hurwitz’s critically acclaimed sitcom, which starred Arnett, went off the air in 2006, fans were left reeling over the show’s demise and never held off hope that a cable network, or film, would breathe new life into the show.

But Hurwitz and Arnett, co-creators of Fox’s new comedy “Running Wilde,” hope viewers will tune into the romantic comedy set for fall.

“We love ‘Arrested’ and do miss it, and we still want to do the movie,” Hurwitz said. Fans of the show, that has since garnered a cult following, should at least be pleased to know that Hurwitz is dead set on plans for the film.

“[The show] was an amazing experience and an amazing opportunity. I look at the climate of television today and I don’t think you could do it [now]. They gave me a lot of room to play. I never had any entitlement or expectation that I could keep that on the air for a long time.”

“Running Wilde” stars Arnett as Steven Wilde, a silver-spooned playboy trying to win –- and of course buy –- the affections of his true love, Emmy, a staunchly liberal humanitarian who retreated to the rainforest to save a tribe and raise her daughter Puddle, who narrates the show.

Arnett already knew what half of the viewers will be thinking once they see the episode.

“Of course we're going to get the comparisons good and bad to ‘Arrested Development. Bad mostly,” he joked.

Hurwitz just hopes viewers will give the show a chance –- and maybe keep it around longer than it’s predecessor.

“There is a burden associated with ‘Arrested Development,’” he said. “If we can get a big audience interested in the show, more and more of our subversion will be able to come out. There is real peril in trying to repeat yourself. [‘Running Wilde’] is not exactly ‘Arrested Development.’ But I think it's one that is appealing.”

"Running Wilde" premieres Tuesday, Sept. 21 (9:30 p.m.) on FOX. Check out a quick glimpse of the show below.

    Re: Running Wilde

Three seasons and 53 episodes is a LOT. It's way more than Freaks and Geeks got, and way more than Party Down got (to name two great shows cut short). Sure fans wanted it to continue, but I still find it incredible that it lasted as long as it did, given how much it demanded of the viewer.

    Re: Running Wilde

I've never understood people's disappointment in how long AD ran. Not only did it run for 3 seasons but it also had a conclusion. I thought Showtime offered them a fourth season and Mitch turned it down because he felt the story was over.

I think TV shows really only go two ways. They either get cancelled too early or too late. Nobody ever thinks a show ended at the right time. You look at a show like Heroes or Scrubs or The Simpsons and think they should have been cancelled after season 1 or 4 or 10 because after that they declined in quality. But if they were cancelled then people would say they were cancelled ahead of their time. It's a strange catch 22 where you either die the hero or live long enough to become the villain (nerd analogy!). The British Office is the only show I can think of where I never seen this happen (but also I watched it years after it came out).

I absolutely agree Freaks and Geeks and a bunch of other shows were cancelled before their time but stuff like AD, Futurama, and Mr Show had a good run, I would have loved more episodes and it sucked that they were cancelled but in the end it doesn't bother me because they all had 3 or 4 seasons.

    Re: Running Wilde

Television Without Pity has been reviewing most of the new shows for fall, and they really didn't like "Running Wilde". I mean, really didn't like it. Beyond "not as good as Arrested Development", they're just point blank saying it's bad. They put it on their "10 Worst New Shows of Fall" list , with only a few shows like "Bleep My Dad Says" and "Outsourced" ahead of it on the list.

I find it hard to believe it's that bad, but the fact that this is TWOP, whose opinion I usually agree with (they love "Modern Family" and "Community" and pretty much everything else that I like) has me a little worried. Hopefully it's just the pilot that is a little shaky and they managed to improve with subsequent episodes.

the first episode was pretty awful. didn't see if there was a new ep on this week or not.

    Second episode as well.

I think Serafinowicz with pretty great on this show. I like how he is doing what amounts to a Peter Sellers character on a network sitcom.

    Re: Running Wilde

This show is great and will only get better if the characters have time to settle in with the writing. I have high hopes it will stick around.

Actually very surprised that I liked the first episode a lot. The premise sounded awful, but the execution is wonderfully silly and it has a nice tone (I guess "Arrested Development"'s tone, but still, it's nice).
