    They Came Together

"Wet Hot American Summer" stars Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler are coming together to reteam with director David Wain on "They Came Together," a romantic comedy parody that will be produced through Lionsgate's microbudget division.

Wain and his longtime collaborator Michael Showalter wrote the script shortly after "Wet Hot American Summer," though the project never got made. Lionsgate is now gearing up to start production this summer.

When Joel (Rudd) and Molly (Poehler) meet, it's hate at first sight; his big corporation is the one that threatens to shut down her quirky knick-knack store. Story, which follows their predictably on-again/off-again relationship, features rom-com staples such as the jealous ex-girlfriend, the office jerk, scary in-laws, a boring dentist, a wise dog and beautiful shots of New York City in autumn.

Both Rudd and Poehler participated in a table read of the script at the San Francisco Sketchfest back in January.

In addition to "Wet Hot American Summer," Rudd has appeared in all of Wain's movies, including "The Ten," "Wanderlust" and "Role Models," the latter of which was a modestly-budgeted Universal comedy that went on to gross $92 million worldwide.

Rudd will next be seen in Summit's high school pic "The Perks of Being a Wallflower" and he also stars in Judd Apatow's "This Is 40." Thesp is attached to star in Paul Weitz's "Admission" and Lynn Shelton's "Laggies," as well as Adam McKay's highly-anticipated "Anchorman" sequel. Rudd most recently wrapped Phil Morrison's "Lucky Dog," which co-stars Paul Giamatti.

Poehler, who stars on NBC's "Parks and Recreation," recently wrapped Black Bear Pictures' comedy "A.C.O.D." and is currently filming Matthew Weiner's "You Are Here," in which she plays Zach Galifianakis' sister.

Rudd is repped by UTA and Brillstein Entertainment Partners, while WME and 3 Arts Entertainment rep Poehler.

Lionsgate's microbudget initiative also includes Paul Middleditch's laffer "Rapturepalooza," which stars Anna Kendrick and comedy luminaries John Francis Daley, Craig Robinson, Rob Corddry, Ken Jeong and Ana Gasteyer.

First of all, awesome. Second of all, I'm really glad David Wain gets to make another movie so soon after Wanderlust underperformed.

I didn't know there was a Matthew Weiner movie with Zach and Amy Poehler in the works. Awesome.

Before he returns for another season on The Office, Ed Helms will star opposite Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler in They Came Together, the David Wain-directed comedy that Wain and Michael Showalter wrote for Lionsgate. Helms is playing Eggbert, which is Amy Poehler’s character’s love interest and accountant in this twisted take on the romantic comedy. Poehler plays a small business owner being crushed by a larger concern. The film shoots in July.

The table read of this at Sketchfest was CRAZY FUNNY so this should be another Wain classic. Can't wait! Thanks for all those articles, Gern.

Noureen DeWulf, who has a regular role as a boyfriend-shooting spoiled rich girl in Charlie Sheen's therapy group on Anger Management, which debuts on FX on June 28, has been cast in Lionsgate's They Came Together.

David Wain is directing the film, which he wrote with Michael Showalter.

DeWulf, who first won notice in the 2007 Oscar-winning short West Bank Story, will play the assistant to Paul Rudd, who plays a big businessman threatening to engulf the little business of Amy Poehler.

On his blog, Wain calls the movie "a spoof/homage/deconstruction/love letter to Romantic Comedies." Ed Helms, Michael Ian Black, and Cobie Smulders also have roles. Tom Shadyac, Laura Maxfield and Showalter are producing. Principal photography is set to begin July 2 in New York.
