    Tell Your Friends! The Concert Film: An Appreciation Thread

    Hello my fellow comedy nerds;

    As those of you in the NYC tri-state region are no doubt aware, last month my show, Tell Your Friends!, filmed a comedy concert at The Bell House (in the charmingly rapey Gowanus industrial zone of Brooklyn). It starred Reggie Watts, Kurt & Kristen, Christian Finnegan, Leo Allen, and Rob Paravonian, as well as the TYF! house band A Brief View of the Hudson. And it was all hosted by myself, Liam McEneaney.

    You can check out our website here: http:///www.tellyourfriendsmovie.com

    The movie is directed by Victor Varnado, whose special The Awkward Comedy Show you may remember seeing, especially if you've been drunk at 3am and left Comedy Central on as you woke up on your couch (that's how i've seen most Comedy Central shows, to be perfectly honest). But here's a link: http://www.awkwardcomedyshow.com/

    We're aiming to make it the The Last Waltz or Woodstock of NY alt. comedy; not only showcasing amazing performers but also interviewing comedians and "industry" folks, to really give the viewer a sense of time and place, and what makes the scene so special. That sounds really pretentious, but fuck it. I've seen the raw footage, and this movie looks goddamn good.

    And in addition to our amazing lineup, the interviewees we've nabbed include Janeane Garofalo, Colin Quinn, Paul F. Tompkins, Marc Maron, Jim Gaffigan, Eddie Brill, Hannibal Buress, Wyatt Cenac, and many many many more.

    So when I say this movie's going to be good, I mean we'd have to work double-overtime to fuck it up.

    In the weeks coming up, we'll be posting some footage from these interviews, and photos and stuff. Also, I'll be updating the blog pretty frequently. In fact, the above picture is from my first blog entry about our interview with Colin Quinn. More interviews and good stuff here: http://tyfthefilm.wordpress.com/

    And if anyone has any questions about this movie, please feel free to post in this thread. Why not.

    Thanks Mike, both are still going really smoothly. I think you're really going to enjoy looking at one of them!

    Interview with Jim Gaffigan!

    For our concert film, Tell Your Friends!, we’ve been interviewing different comedians about all aspects of the business. A few weeks ago, Jim Gaffigan sat down and talked to us at Comix about his earliest beginnings in New York’s comedy clubs, and what it took to get onstage.

    We interviewed Janeane Garofalo...

    Liam McEneaney: Let’s start by talking about the LA comedy scene.

    Janeane Garofalo: Regarding the LA alt comedy scene, there have been a couple of people, sometimes when I do these interviews, say you’ve been credited with helping to start, I don’t know, that gives me way too much credit. I don’t know how that could possibly be true...
