Thread: Superjail on Adult Swim

    Superjail on Adult Swim

This premiered last night. Did anyone watch it? Should there be a thread for it?

The particulars: the show was created by Christy Karacas, Steve Warbrick and Ben Gruber. Karacas and Warbrick have done some animation work for various random things, while Gruber has written for shows like "Monk" and "Human Giant." Aaron Augenblick, who's previously directed animation for "Daria," "Wonder Showzen" and "The Ten"also works on the show.

David Wain voices the warden, with Chris McCulloch/Jackson Publick also part of the cast, and I thought they both did a nice job.

I watched it, but I'm not sure if I liked it. I didn't not like it, and it's definitely different than a lot of what's on Adult Swim. It seems to be a cross between "Sealab"/"Frisky Dingo"-type randomness and "Metalocalypse"-style violence. If anything, it reminded me a little bit of what used to play on MTV's Liquid Television, but I think in large part that's due to the show's visual style.

So to return to the top of the post, did anyone watch it? Should there be a thread for it?

I really liked the pilot that I saw a few months back. I am not sure if that was the episode they aired recently.

The pilot can be seen here (with optional video commentary):

I love this show! The animation is fucking gorgeous. This season premiere show wasn't as action-packed as the pilot was, but I felt it was a solid episode. I'm really excited for the rest of the series.

It's amazing. There isn't anything on TV with animation this insane. It's like Tom and Jerry crossed with Tim and Eric or something.

I saw the pilot and another episode a while back. There was simply too much going on for me to enjoy it.

i love this show! i didnt know it premiered. i've seen the pilot, and the episode where the warden builds a bar inside the jail. was this a totally different ep? i'm totally mesmorized by the animation and pace, and i think it's pretty well written too..
    i don't really like having a signature.

I love this show. The animation is incredible. It's the kind of free-floating insanity that you don't usually see in animation lately.

On last night's episode, I noticed that Jon Glaser was listed as a creative consultant. The scene with the scorpion/war god definitely read "Glaser." Good things!

I don't think I was particularly exposed to lots of violence when I was younger, but whenever this show gets to the super-violent parts (and on "Metalocalypse" as well) I always tune out a little bit and wonder when they're going to get back to the story. The animation is great, though.

It reminds me a lot of something that would have aired during MTV's Liquid Television.

I'm surprised this show hasn't been discussed more. It's not perfect, but it's always good and sometimes fantastic. I think David Wain's voice acting is some kind of magical. It perfectly fits his cracked, benevolent dictator character.

The internet is an evil bitch, for you will find horrible things related to great topics.
Superjail is an awesome show, but the fan art that has emerged from this show is rage inducing. (Just go on DeviantArt and search it). Not to say all of it's terrible. Very good artists out there, but for every good piece of fan art that has been drawn on this show, there 30 crappy (and possibly scaring) drawings that exist...

Sorry, I genuinely like this show and it's animation. The violence for me flows really well.
    Estoy jodida...

I've never actually laughed at Superjail, but the mad-cap, hallucinatory violence is downright mesmerizing.

    Re: Superjail on Adult Swim

*sigh* All my attempts to watch the premiere from that country above the United States have failed.

But then maybe it's for the best that I don't pirate a show about a killer robot who hunts down criminals.
