I didn't really get this episode either, although from watching Conan this week I now understand that it's based on something that's really going on in professional football right now. But I still don't understand how they made the leap from that to jizz drinking. That was really a stretch.

I thought it was an okayish episode, but probably one of the weaker Randy episodes in my opinion. Lately South Park is more hit-or-miss, it's starting to become more obvious that Matt & Trey are making these at the last minute, as they've been doing for a while now, but lately it's resulting in some pretty silly stories that don't always work.

I had high hopes for this episode, but I thought it was just terrible. None of it worked for me.

"Taking down" Randy Newman was super-lame when Family Guy did it, and 1000x lamer now that South Park is doing it. What a horrible waaste of an episode that should have been great.

Re: South Park is still on

They tried to do way too much in this episode. There were like 3 or 4 different plots going on at the same time. First it was about Cartman becoming fat and having to ride around in a mobility scooter, and them not letting him use the restroom at Best Buy (which...whatever. I guess that was really an important cultural issue that needed to be addressed), then swerved into a parody of "Honey Boo Boo" (timely, but annoying), and then making fun of James Cameron investigating how far the bar has been lowered in our culture (an idea which probably seemed funnier in theory than it ended up being in execution. Plus it seemed too reminiscent of "Russell Crowe Fightin' Around the World", with the theme song and everything). So the episode ended up being a mess. I thought the premise was going to be that Cartman put on a dress and TURNED INTO Honey Boo Boo, which probably would have been funnier.

Matt and Trey should probably put "South Park" on the back burner for a while, as their hearts clearly aren't into it anymore. They can relax and count their money for a little bit, they don't need to keep cranking out the episodes.

Yeah, Christ. I know everybody works hard on the show, but this 6 days to air crap is killing them.

I wasn't very familiar with Honey Boo Boo so I watched an episode and now I'm scared and need someone to hold me and tell me everything will be okay.

Totally agree with Brasky. All over the place.
I feel like the mobility scooter thing could hold an episode (it's been done to death; America is fat and entitled) but way too many balls in the air in this episode.
The James Cameron/Randy Newman thing came out of nowhere and led nowhere.

I did check out another episode that I thought was pretty decent though, the cash for gold one. Maybe it's my personal issues with these businesses, but I thought it was interesting to show the circle that perpetuates it; even if it's factually wrong.

Meh I'll hold off on the show unless I heard great things about an episode.

Cartman already essentially turned into Honey Boo Boo a million years ago. "Whatever! I do what I want!"

And where does South Park get off wringing its hands about the coarsening of popular culture? There was a vague nod toward this point when Stan and Kyle wondered if they were responsible but... yeah, guys. You are.

I liked this episode. The main storyline was classic South Park, and I loved how the drawing kept getting passed around and misinterpreted.

That said, it's annoying how Cartman has become a mouthpiece for whatever Trey wants to complain about this week. And it was made worse by being such a well-worn subject. Making fun of home security services feels like one of everyone's old jokes.

Last night's episode.......WTF? What was it parodying/referencing? It was like they intentionally made an episode that was unfunny/boring/bad.

This was probably the most enjoyable episode for me this season. I know "Nobody Goes To Video Stores Anymore" jokes are nothing new, but doing it as a parody of"The Shining" worked for me. And I'm with you BB, I still don't know WTF to make of that Hawaii episode from last week.

My girlfriend works at a video store. That episode made her both angry and sad.

    (Also, she laughed a lot)

Yeah, this was probably the best episode this season so far. And it made me laugh when the captions appeared on screen saying "FRIDAY', "SATURDAY" , etc., because it made me think of Gene Shalit's review of "The Shining", as shown recently on The Fogelnest Files:

"Now, I may be wrong, but I think what Mr. Kubrick meant by "Tuesday" is that this scene took place on a Tuesday"- PFT

A bit of interesting news on the upcoming season.

The upcoming season won't begin until September 25, and there will only be ten episodes this time, and ten episodes every year from now on. I guess with Matt & Trey focusing more time on their new "Important Studios" production company and its projects, the first of which is said to be the film version of The Book of Mormon, as well as some other stuff for tv... I heard something about them producing a Les Claypool fishing show????

Hopefully this means they'll concentrate more on the quality of the episodes rather than rushing them in a week which seems to be how they've done it for the past several years.

I mean, if you watch the documentary and interviews and such it doesn't seem like they'd ever stop doing the 6 day production schedule. It seems like they like it that way.

I'm excited about their production company though. There hasn't been a Matt & Trey project I've hated (and my god is Book of Mormon great), so the more projects with their fingers in them the better.
