    Scary Movie 5

The Weinstein Company announced in a short message on Facebook that a fifth installment of the "Scary Movie" spoof comedy franchise has been given the green light.

Anna Faris has played Cindy Campbell in all four films that started back in 2000, though it's uncertain if she'll return again. It's been five years since the fourth movie came out in 2006.

The films, which all cost under $50 million to make, have earned a nice $818 million worldwide for the studio over the years, so it's no surprise that they would want to keep the franchise going.

If it's David Zucker spoofing the The Final Destination series, like I've heard, then this could be really good. The ridiculous Rube Goldberg deaths are rife for spoofing. But who knows? Scary Movie 3 was amusing and Scary Movie 4 was not.

There are some genuinely great gags in both Scary Movie 3 and 4 so as long as David Zucker, Jim Abrahams and Pat Proft are involved in some capacity, I'll be interested in seeing this.

    Re: Scary Movie 5

One of my favorite lines in Scary Movie 4 is when Michael Madsen as the crazy Tim-Robbins-from- War-of-the-Worlds character says to Craig Bierko, "We'll defeat those aliens. We'll build our own tripods. Ours will be better than theirs- ours will have four legs!" I think I remember reading that that line was written by Jim Abrahams.

SM4 had a higher "miss" total in the hit-to-miss ratio, but it was still pretty good I thought. As long as they remember to include lots of verbal humor and puns, and not just stick to scenes of people running into things and injuring themselves, they'll be OK.

Your post is on the confusing side since you don't specifically reference what movie you're talking about and the thread is titled for a movie that is not out.

It's a spambot quoting the imdb message board for Scary Movie 2.
Just pretend this says something hilarious.

I'm looking forward to this because it will give the type of people who would actually pay to see a "Scary Movie" movie a place to get off the streets for a few hours.

Could we use spoiler tags because I'm only up to Scary Movie 3 and want to watch 4 first so I don't miss anything.
What was the best concert you've been to?

"Probably Sade. It was just so sexy and relaxing."

The Scary Movie series has rarely fallen to the level of the Friedberg & Seltzer "just recreating movie scenes without adding jokes" formula. I was listening to the commentary on the Scary Movie 4 DVD last night (yeah, I have that kind of free time), and David Zucker and Robert K. Weiss were joking about a particular scene near the beginning of the movie (where Craig Bierko is lifting girders with a crane, parodying Tom Cruise's character in War of the Worlds) and saying that it was a scene that anyone could do, calling it an "F&S" scene. I thought that was pretty funny.

They have hired writers for Scary Movie 5, John Aboud and Michael Colton (the guys behind the Modern Humorist website, who also wrote the David Koechner movie 'The Comebacks') and offers are out to Anthony Anderson, Regina Hall and Kevin Hart to return for the fifth installment.

    Re: Scary Movie 5

I'm starting to wonder if this is really going to happen. The release date for Scary Movie 5 is supposed to be April 20th. That's less than 3 months from now, and I haven't seen any indication that they've started filming on this yet. I guess it's possible they could film, edit, and get a movie ready for release in 3 months (I think Friedberg and Seltzer have done it), but that's cutting it pretty close.

I'm also wondering why we haven't seen a trailer for "Movie 43" yet, which has been finished for months. Most movies coming out in April have trailers already out by now.

Unbelievable! They can fake putting a man on the moon but they can't continue the Scary Movie franchise in a timely manner?

    Re: Scary Movie 5

I remember in October or November reading that Anna Faris said she would return if they offered her a part but they hadn't yet. If they hadn't even asked her by then (assuming they planned to, which seems likely) I can't see this happening by April.

I remember enjoying the first one but that was a long time ago and I haven't seen the rest aside from bits on cable.

The Weinsteins have pushed back Scary Movie 5 from an April 20th release to January 11th, 2013, where it will face Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters.

Most people first discovered the comedic talent of actress Anna Faris when she played Cindy Cambell in the first Scary Movie in 2000 and over the next six years, she's helped ground that comedy franchise as it spoofed dozens of movies that came out during the first half of the '00s.

It's been six years since Scary Movie 4 and while there's been talk of Dimension Films making another one ever since, they finally announced they were moving ahead with Scary Movie 5 and that it would be directed by Malcolm Lee. Other than the release date of January 11, 2013, that's pretty much all that's known about it.

Of course, we wanted to assume that Cindy Campbell would be back and it was rumored Faris might at least make a cameo, so when ComingSoon.net interviewed Anna Faris today for her new movie The Dictator with Sacha Baron Cohen, we asked whether she's gotten the call and whether Cindy may be returning.

"No, I don't think I'm going to do it," she told us. "I don't think I'm part of that. I don't know exactly what's happening with it, but I hear it's sort of in the works and stuff."

It's kind of sad to hear that Faris won't have a chance to pass on the baton, but she was glad to hear we'd miss seeing her in the movie, and maybe they'll call her eventually to at least do a cameo.

As of now, no other cast has been officially announced, although at least another "Scary Movie" regular Regina Hall has worked with Malcolm Lee before, appearing in his first movie The Best Man.
